We Remember

KLASSEN, Beatrice Mavis

June 26, 1937 — April 8, 2022

Mavis passed away peacefully, entering her eternal reward, on April 8, 2022, at the age of 84 years.

Mavis was born in Carmen, Manitoba to Jake and Tina Toews. After a childhood that was spent on small farms, as a young adult she moved to Winnipeg, MB to work. Mavis came to faith as a child and followed Jesus her whole life. While attending the Alliance Church in Winnipeg, she felt a call to missions. She met her future husband Jacob “Jake” Klassen and they both attended Canadian Bible College. After college, Mavis and her husband served the Alliance church in Fort Qu’Appelle SK. While there they had their first son, Bruce. To begin their missionary career in the study of Spanish they moved to San Jose, Costa Rica. After one year, they moved to the country of Ecuador, where they were blessed with two more sons, Kevin and Scott. After their mission career, Mavis served as a church administrator and counsellor. She also served full-time with Freedom in Christ Ministries Canada for 18 years.

Mavis was known as an encourager, and by God’s grace she was able to touch and encourage many lives throughout her life. Her life goal was to be used by God to touch lives for Jesus. Although she will be missed by her family and many friends, we live in anticipation and hope that we will be reunited with her in heaven.

Mavis is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jake Klassen; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Kathy Klassen; son and grandson Kevin and Jonathan Klassen; daughter-in-law Wendi Wright and grandson and granddaughter Diego and Dia Klassen. She also has two remaining siblings: sister, Olga Bergen, and brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Christine Toews; as well as an extensive extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents Jake and Tina Toews; brother Roy Toews; sister Edna Boss; nephew Floyd Boss; son Scott Klassen; and daughter-in-law Wendy Klassen.

In honour of Mavis, memorial donations may be made to Freedom in Christ Ministries Canada.

Mavis blessed so many people with her faith and kindness. Praying that you’ll find comfort in your memories of her and in the knowledge that others are missing her, too.

  • Pam Morse aka Kohn says:

I met Mavis back in 1974 at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Glendale, Ca. Since then I have tried several times to find Mavis so I could thank her and let her know the impact she had to my eventual salvation. She had such an influence in my life when I was going through a very difficult divorce. Mavis has always held a special place in my heart and as I look back on my life, she was one of the women the Lord gave me to cherish. I wish I had been able to connect with her before her homegoing, but am so glad I found her service online. Mavis loved me and showered her care on me when I was so alone and hurting. To me, she was a wonderful, special lady!! My heart goes out to Jake and the rest of her family.
