We Remember
KOENIG, Gertrude “Doris”
July 6, 1929 — August 17, 2021
Doris passed away at home, at the age of 92, with Mark and Daphne by her side.
She was born in Kamloops, BC, however, she lived in Armstrong, BC until she was 18 years old. She then moved to Vancouver, BC to become a seamstress. Doris also worked as a telephone operator during her time in Vancouver.
She later returned to the Okanagan where she met her husband George in 1952. Doris worked as a receptionist in optometry before becoming a full-time farm wife in the mid-sixties.
Doris and George had their son Mark, who grew up as an only child. Doris would be described as having a strong mother’s heart with lots of love to give.
Doris is survived by her son Mark and his partner Daphne; her brother-in-law Robert Jablonski; Ellis (Karl) Burian; Madeline and Isabel Koenig; and her numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George who passed in 1995 and her infant daughter Marie.
Doris will be remembered as a resilient woman. Even as she battled illness since 2011; her strength was evident.
She lived with her son Mark and his partner Daphne for over a decade and continued to grow close with them both.
By request, there will be no service.
