October 18, 1928 — June 22, 2014

“Death leaves a heartache

no one can heal,

Love leaves a memory

no one can steal.”

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beautiful and remarkable mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Helena Jessica Kolenda.  She began the second part of her journey to reunite with the love of her life John as she was surrounded by her loving family.  She will be greatly missed by her loving children, Roberta, Angela (Paul), Helen (Ted), Johnny and Michael: her grandchildren: Tanya, Kimberley, Cory, Desiree, Colin, Mallory, Lyra, Ariana, and Sophia: her eight great-grandchildren and her two four-legged friends. Helena is also survived by many relatives in Europe. Thank you to all the wonderful caring staff at Pine Acres Home during her stay there and especially for the compassion they showed her and us. As per Helena’s request, a private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation, #4 – 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9.  If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Condolences

  • Rhonda Rea says:

    Our Dear Roberta;
    Much love and hugs to you and your family Roberta. I’m so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I still have her hand written recipe for the wonderful cookies she made for Larry. You stayed by her side and without a doubt you are a very loving daughter. How blessed she was to have so much love and devotion. I know there won’t be enough chocolate to take the sadness away, but I’d love to take you for a chocolate treat when you’re ready.
    Kindest Regards, big hugs and much love from Rhonda and Larry

  • Willie and Rod Stewart says:

  • Donna Grandan says:

    I think of your mom often as she was very kind to me when I was growing up. She always made time to listen to me, which I greatly appreciated. She was a very special lady and I think of her with love. Please accept my belated condolences to everyone in your family as I just found out she had passed. My husband Ed passed away 3 years ago and I understand your loss.
    Love, Donna Grandan
