We Remember

KONECHNY, Edna

June 24, 1923 — December 16, 2022

Edna Konechny was born on the farm just outside of Edenwold, SK on June 24, 1923, and passed away peacefully at Brandt’s Creek Mews in Kelowna, BC, on December 16, 2022, at the age of 99.5 years.

She was sadly predeceased by her husband of 70 years, George, in 2016; and by her two sisters.  She is survived by her son Gary (Ginny) Konechny; and three grandchildren, Craig (Satomi) Konechny and their son Emerson, Jeff Konechny and his sons Justin and Brandon, and Sara (Vinay) Mehta.

After marrying the love of her life George, they moved to Vancouver in 1947 where she made many lifelong friends while caring for her family. In the mid ’60s, she entered the workforce, first with Eatons and later with Woodwards. After George’s retirement in 1984, they moved to Kelowna to enjoy the retired life, golfing, square dancing, playing cards with friends, and travelling. Winters found them in either Arizona or Hawaii with old friends from the coast or new friends from Kelowna.Mom and the grandkids always enjoyed each other’s company and she was always generous when it came to helping us out with the pressures of raising a family, we couldn’t have asked for better grandparents.

2016 brought the bad news of Dad being diagnosed with COPD and Mom with Alzheimer’s. After George’s passing in July, Mom was placed in Brandts Creek care home in November. My wife Ginny has our family’s enteral gratefulness for looking after both Mom and Dad in their time of need. As those who have dealt with a family member with Alzheimer’s, it’s hard to watch the decline of your loved one over six years, my thoughts often went back in time, remembering the journey we went through that was called life, and how special it was because or her.

There will be a graveside service in conjunction with her birthday in June, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved George.  She will be remembered in that celebration of her life, as she gave us so much to remember her by.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
