We Remember

KOSEC, Franc

July 22, 1941 — May 22, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Franc Kosec.  His short battle with cancer ended peacefully at home with Marjeta, his wife of 50 years, by his side.  He is predeceased by his father Janez, mother Rozalija, and 4 brothers Janez, Stanko, Joze, and Tone.  He will be remembered by Marjeta and their son Rob (Becky), daughter Laurie (Jason), grandchildren Jenica, Tessa, Noah, Russell, and Isaak, sisters Marija (Tony deceased), Agnes (Drago), and Rezi (Janez), and the many loving nephews, nieces, relatives, and companions in Slovenija and Canada.

Franc was born on July 22, 1941 in Vel. Brusnice, Slovenija and left the country as a young man on foot where he eventually found work in France.  He returned briefly to marry Marjeta and they soon immigrated in 1969 with the dream of a new life in Canada.  He enjoyed living in the Okanagan with his family, making wine, and working as one of Kelowna’s finest “steel doctors” as a proprietor of Franc’s Springs and Welding.  Franc and Marjeta enjoyed many special years at Canim Lake along with their many travels throughout B.C., California, and Arizona.  Franc’s love of nature and one of a kind character will forever be remembered by many.

We would like to thank Dr. Naude, Dr. Topic, the Kelowna Cancer Clinic, and the great palliative care team for their dedication and providing him with comfort and dignity towards the end of his journey.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency – Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior www.bccancer.bc.ca.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 14, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC.  If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences.”

    Dear Marjeta, Rob, Laurie & families
    It has been many years since we were in touch Marjeta but I have fond memories of your visits to our office and your stories of your lives in your homeland and Canada. Although I seldom saw Franc, I felt I also knew him and I’m sure he will be greatly missed by you and his entire family. My thoughts are with you at this .difficult time..

    Marjeta and family
    We are very very sorry and sad to hear of Frans passing.
    The world is now short of one really good welder and fabricator!
    He was one of the hardest working people I ever met..
    We want to thank you for being a wonderful and consistent landlord
    while we were a tenant on Ross RD.,
    We shared almost 20 years of seeing Franc every day and he will be remembered with much admiration and respect.
