It is with the greatest sadness that we announce that Tillie passed with her family at her side on January 29, 2014 at the age of 98. Mom was born on the family homestead in Saskatchewan, on April 10, 1915 to Andrew and Magdelena Volk. Mom was predeceased by her husband George (1986), an infant son (1939) and son Robert (1966). She is also predeceased by her siblings: Adam, Madeline, Anne and John. She is survived by her daughters: Dolores “Dolly” (Cecil) Metcalfe, Sandy Kraft (Tony Krause), and Pat Spoljaric (Darrell Roebuck), all of Kelowna; grandchildren: Peggy Metcalfe (Glen Campbell), Michael Metcalfe (Diana Orr), Sheila Tomkinson (Ole Freiberg), Sharon Metcalfe, Dave Metcalfe (Bernie Casorso), Dean (Lisa) Kraft, Roza Spoljaric, and Adam (Dana) Voth; great grandchildren: Tanya and Robert Tomkinson, Jesse Lencucha, Desmond and Cassidy Brown, Lucas and Logan Voth; 2 great-great grandsons: Dominic and Austin Brown.
A hard worker all her life, her hands were never idle. Mom was an accomplished seamstress and knitter, keeping those hands busy until one year ago when her eyesight failed. She worked at the MacLean & Fitzpatrick Packing House for 29 years and then at Sutherland Hills Rest Home, when she finally retired at the age of 76. A special thanks to the staff of Sutherland Hills where she resided for the past 11 months, and a special thank you to Dr. Greg McCloskey for his devoted service. Cremation. I cannot find the words that I need to express my feelings with the recent passing of such a truly amazing woman. Even if I did find the words… they will be inadequate….
How very fortunate are we to have been granted the blessing of knowing Tilly ‘n having her in our lives. It has been an honor to have laughed with her… to watch her unwavering strength… to be a recipient of her love… her wisdom.. her expertise as a seamstress… ‘n oh…. how I loved her little quips/anecdotes.
~ Her life was so gentle and the elements so mixed in her ………..that nature might stand up and say to all the world……… this was a woman.~
Loving ‘n missing you… always
Dolly,Sandy,Pat and families
My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother.
Tillie was a special lady, definitely one of a kind, and could tell a story like no one else.
She had a great sense of humour and a huge heart, and always knew she had you 3, “her girls”, who she could count on no matter what.
Her loss will be felt by many.
My deepest sympathies,
Jamie
