KROPP, John Roy – UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION
January 30, 1954 — June 23, 2025
John Roy Kropp passed away peacefully at home on June 23rd, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, surrounded by love.
Born in Sudbury, Ontario, John lived a life rich in adventure, accomplishment, and generosity. He was a devoted husband to Christine (Kohl) for 21 beautiful years, a proud and loving father to his son Benjamin, and a cherished brother to Brigitte Colyer (Greg). He is also survived by his dear cousins Susie Kruze and Marion Kruze; his in-laws Dawson & Karen Kohl; his brothers-in-law, Shawn (Krista) Kohl and Kevin Kohl; as well as his nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his beloved parents, Johann and Inge Kropp, cousin Peter Kruze, and furry companion, Tucker.
A lifelong explorer, John had a passion for travel that took him to more than 80 countries. His career began with WardAir, where he opened offices across Europe. His love for culture and learning led him to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, where he learned French while indulging his passion for the culinary arts.
He later made London, Ontario home, working in finance with TSC Stores. After earning his MBA from the Ivey School of Business, John led the acquisition of TSC alongside two colleagues—an entrepreneurial milestone of which he was incredibly proud. Under their leadership, the company experienced significant growth over the next three years, expanding its reach across Ontario.
In their shared passion for hospitality, John and Christine purchased and transformed the Idlewyld Inn, breathing new life into a historic Victorian bed & breakfast and turning it into a renowned luxury inn known for its warmth, elegance, and exceptional guest experience.
Upon retirement, they settled in Muskoka, ON, where they operated the Fairy Bay Guest House. It became not just a lakeside retreat for guests from around the world, it was a welcoming place where friends gathered, meals were shared, and simple moments were enjoyed.
John was an active member of his community, serving on the boards of several charities and organizations, always leading with kindness, insight and a generous spirit.
A man of many passions—an extraordinary cook, an avid golfer, a patient fisherman, and a loyal friend. His idea of a perfect day was a round on the golf course, followed by cooking a delicious meal to share with family and friends.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care John received from Dr. Larry Bobyn and the incredible team at the BC Cancer Centre in Kelowna, as well as the palliative care nurses who supported us through the final months of this journey.
