We Remember
LACHMUTH, Randall “Randy”
—
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Randy, on January 20, 2022, with his loving wife Karen at his bedside.
Randy leaves to mourn: his wife of 42 years, Karen; daughter Carissa (Toby); granddaughters Caidence and Alethea; mother Doreen; sister Cheryl (Dave); mother-in-law Norma; sister-in-law Barbara (Calvin); nephew Tyler; and extended family members. Randy was predeceased by his father Emil and his father-in-law Edward.
Randy was born in Calgary, Alberta on June 4, 1957. He met the “love of his life” Karen in December 1978, and they were married in October 1979. During their married years, they loved raising their only child Carissa, and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, bike riding, hiking, kayaking, gardening, and travelling. He was an avid golfer and spent many good times and shared many laughs with his buddies on the golf course.
He and Karen worked tirelessly on the construction, renovation, and landscaping of their homes in Kelowna, BC over the years. He was a very skilled carpenter and hard worker. Always willing to take on a challenge.
Randy and Karen also enjoyed travelling to their favourite spots on Vancouver Island, the Oregon Coast and Akumal, Mexico over the years. Many happy memories were made there.
Randy was very proud of completing a “bucket list” trip in July 2017, hiking the West Coast Trail, with his good friend Wayne. Many memories of that trip were shared over the years since.
Randy will be remembered for his unwavering positivity, his enthusiasm and adventure for life, his desire and willingness to help those in need, his sense of humour, his infectious smile, twinkling blue eyes and passion for his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Randy and Karen were dealt a tragic blow 4 years ago when a spinal cord injury left Randy a vented quadriplegic. Through those incredibly difficult times, he always had a joke or a kind word for those around him. He considered his caregivers as part of the family and was always thankful for their caring and supportive ways. Special thanks go to those caregivers that were at his side until his passing.
Thank you to all that contributed to helping Randy and Karen over these past four difficult years. The time, financial support, love, and caring shown by family, friends, contractors, and coworkers at Kelowna Home Hardware is greatly appreciated.
The family thanks the wonderful, caring nurses on 4B at KGH for their level of care and compassion during his hospital stays over the past years since his injury. A special thank you to Dr. Wall for being so supportive to the family during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that a contribution in Randy’s name be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, donate.bccancerfoundation.com.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring.
