We Remember
LANDRY, Ruth Harriet
July 20, 1935 — October 8, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our most beloved mother, Ruth Harriett Landry, on October 8, 2018, Thanksgiving Day, at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC.
Ruth was born July 20, 1935 in Fredericton, NB to the late Andreas “Andy” Landry of Bouctouche, NB and Marion Gladys (Brown) Landry of Fredericton, NB.
She is survived by her son, Ronald A. “Tony” Delagarde of Kelowna, BC and six daughters, Roxanne Landry, a.k.a. Pushie of NS; Veronica (Lyn) Saunders of Bronson Settlement, NB; Rachelle “Shelly” Delagarde of Kelowna, BC; Patricia Roy of Niagara Falls, ON; Jacelyn Charlton of Lunenburg, NS and Melissa Lacroix of Vancouver, BC. Also surviving are her brother Robert Landry of Bathurst, NB and two cousins Hazel Cosman and Lorena Boyce both of Fredericton, NB, not to mention many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruth enjoyed her years as a member of “Seafarers International” in the 70’s, working on the many Great Lakes Cargo ships in many capacities in the Galley Department. After raising her children, she went back to sailing with Upper Lakes Shipping International at the age of 60. We were all very proud of her as she worked hard, loved to sail and met many wonderful shipmates along the way.
Our mother was a very witty person and was always ready with a quick response. Right up till her last days, she joked with the nurses.
One of her greatest joys in life was her love of animals and, in our growing up years, there was always a houseful. Once retired, Mom got Betty, her faithful companion and best friend, who enjoyed a long life of 14 years. Betty passed away along with Mom.
She was predeceased by her parents, 2 sisters (Donna Prouse and Eunice Arleine Landry) and ex-husband Ronald James Joseph Delagarde.
To honour our mother’s request there will be no funeral or service. Instead she will be returned home to Fredericton, New Brunswick where she will be laid to rest alongside her Mother and her many family members in the Fraser plot at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery.
Special thanks to the staff at Kelowna General Hospital for the loving care they provided.
