We Remember
LARSEN, Cary Lyn
July 26, 1952 — October 11, 2025
Cary Lyn Larsen, 73, of Kelowna, British Columbia, passed peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of family. Born on July 26, 1952, in Radville, Saskatchewan, Cary lived a life defined by kindness, strength, and an unshakeable joy that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Cary was the cherished son of Ida and Harvey Larsen and grew up alongside his siblings Jan, Chris, and Dawn. In 1962, the Larsen family moved from Radville, Saskatchewan to Kelowna, British Columbia, where Cary’s lifelong appreciation for nature and the outdoors first began to bloom. His passion for wide-open spaces and mountain views remained constant throughout his life.
On November 5, 1977, Cary married the love of his life, Fran Casorso. Together, they shared nearly five decades of deep companionship and adventure. In 1979, Cary and Fran moved to Rossland, and two years later, they settled on Casino Road. There, they built not only a home but a community of friends who became like extended family. The Larsen’s farm became the lively site of family fun rodeos and countless gatherings filled with laughter —Cary’s infectious laugh would brighten any moment.
A man of great skill and integrity, Cary completed his carpentry apprenticeship at Cominco and took pride in his craftsmanship. His hard work, determination, and eye for detail resonated deeply with everything he created. Later, Cary trained as a farrier in Bozeman, Montana, where fellow students fondly nicknamed him “The Old Canuck.” A man of many talents, Cary also worked as a ski instructor for many seasons at Silver Star Ski Resort, teaching alongside his brother Jan. His love of craftsmanship, animals, and the slopes reflected a life constantly in motion — guided by curiosity, humility, and joy.
Cary’s personal pursuits mirrored his adventurous and creative spirit. He spent hours watching the natural landscapes he so loved, whether the rolling hills or the city below. He found peace in country music, in the bond between rider and horse, and in his artistry, often using natural materials to create meaningful works. He was also an avid hunter, golfer, and tennis player, passions that brought him both challenge and fulfillment.
Those who knew Cary will remember his warmth, his unwavering encouragement and his wise, steady advice — often summed up in his favourite saying to his children: “Make wise choices.” He possessed enormous mental strength and an easy humour that inspired everyone to live fully.
Cary is survived by his devoted wife, Fran; his children Sven (Fallon) Larsen, Danielle (Mike) Webster, and Maggie (Chris) Zolmer; his siblings Jan, Chris (Brogan and Shay), and Dawn (Conan, Cody, and Sandyl); his grandchildren Kya, Dayson, Elizabeth, Pearl, Harvey, George, Madeline, Lincoln, and Olivia; and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
A Celebration of Life will be held on SATURDAY, October 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. (PDT) at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream at the time of the service (see below), a recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.
