We Remember
LAWRENCE, John Joseph
—
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that John Lawrence passed away on his favourite day, Christmas, December 25, 2024, with his lifelong companion Heather by his side. Born and raised in Vancouver, John was a man who embraced the spirit of adventure and the great outdoors. His love for nature and all things that came with it shaped his life and brought joy to those who knew him.
John spent his summers in the Okanagan, where he built cherished memories and a deep love for the water. He was a truck driver for many years in the Lower Mainland, a job that kept him on the move, just like his heart. But no matter how busy life got, John always made time for the things that mattered most — his family and his passions.
An avid fisherman, John learned the craft from his uncles, who were commercial fishermen. Whether he was casting his line from a quiet lake or navigating the open sea, John’s love for fishing was unmatched. He wasn’t just about catching fish; he was about sharing those moments with family, whether he was cooking up the catch of the day or telling stories around the campfire.
John was a master on the water, enjoying waterskiing, boating, and any excuse to be on the lake. His love for the outdoors didn’t stop there. He was always ready for a camping trip, or a spontaneous adventure, whether it was a weekend getaway or just a few hours by the water.
A good cook and an even better host, John’s meals were as much about the company as they were about the food. He took pride in catching the fish and cooking it up with love, especially for his family, where he was happiest surrounded by the laughter and joy of his loved ones.
As a grandfather, John’s love and pride for his grandchildren knew no bounds. His legacy will live on through them, in the stories, the lessons, and the memories he leaves behind.
John’s restlessness was part of his nature — he could never stay still. There was always a project on the go, a task to be done, or a new idea to explore. He lived life with a passion and a drive that was infectious to those around him.
John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the spirit of adventure that will continue to inspire his family and friends. He may be gone, but his presence will be felt forever in the places he loved, the projects he left unfinished, and the hearts he touched along the way.
John is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Heather; children Sherry-Lea Granger, Alexander Lawrence Granger, Christopher, Rhonda, and Karen; his grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Christina; brother Bill; and aunts Kay Chadwick and Carol Chadwick.
John and his family take comfort that even though John’s “Gone Fishing”, he is fishing with the Lord, and that one day we will all be reunited again.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
