We Remember

LEBOE, Benjamin Donald

June 11, 1945 — September 20, 2024

Benjamin Donald Leboe of Lake Country, BC passed away peacefully on September 20th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Loos, BC on June 11th, 1945, to Alvin and Martha Leboe, Ben was one of seven siblings. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane Donahue, his children, Elizabeth (Lenard), David (Debbie), Sam (Virginia), and Benjamin (Claire) and his grandchildren Jacob and Noah.

Ben’s early years in the rugged wilderness of BC shaped his resilience and independence. At 12 he left home to pursue his education in Alberta, and by 16 he headed off to UBC. Ben went on to achieve a successful career as a management consultant, becoming a Senior Partner at Peat Marwick, and served in high-level positions with both federal and provincial governments. He consulted in the international mining and technology industries, helping to take companies public. He served on many boards where his honest, intelligent, and practical advice was valued.

Ben will be remembered not just for his professional achievements but for his character. He was a man of boundless patience, kindness, and generosity, always ready to offer a helping hand or thoughtful guidance to friends and family in times of need. Whether offering career counsel, personal advice, or simply lending an ear, Ben’s loyalty and steady wisdom were constants in the lives of those who knew him.

He adored his wife and children, taking immense pride in their accomplishments and offering them unwavering support and love. Ben was the cornerstone of his family, providing strength, guidance, and the enduring values of “The Leboe Way,”. Imparted by his parents, this way taught him to trust in people, seek out the good in others, and take care of those around you. This openness and acceptance endeared him to friends, family, and colleagues alike, leaving a legacy of compassion, trust, and encouragement that will be deeply missed by all.

No funeral or formal reception will be held: instead, a small family gathering will be held in the spring at the Leboe family cemetery in Loos, BC.

My heart goes out to all the family. Though we parted long ago, having children together meant an on going relationship; it remained friendly and embraced his new family. I am so glad I had the opportunity to talk with Ben in his final weeks, both in person and through video calls. I share in your grief, more perhaps, than I thought I would. With love, Lynn Kagan
