We Remember

LEITCH, Sandra June “Sandi”

June 8, 1955 — January 30, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sandra June “Sandi” Leitch – mother, sister, maker of things, vessel of vitality – who left us on January 30, 2025, at the age of 69. Sandi was born on June 8, 1955, in Burns Lake, BC, and spent her final days at home in Kelowna, BC, surrounded by love. Sandi will be deeply missed by her loving daughters, Nicole and Chantelle; Andy, the father of her daughters; her cherished siblings, Wayne (Mandy), Joe (Launi), Carol (Oscar), Cliff, and Lenard (Marg); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Evalyn and Abram Giesbrecht.

Sandi was not a woman who simply occupied space. She left traces – threads, beads, words, and notes of songs sung quietly when no one was listening. She read voraciously, as if devouring pages could stave off the inevitability of endings. She wrote, knowing the power of shaping the unsaid into something lasting. She sang, as if the notes could weave their way into the cracks of the world, her voice carrying the weight of things she couldn’t say and the joy of things she didn’t need to. She created, with needle and thread, with hands, heart, and voice, expressing her art with all she did.

Dedicating her life to helping others, Sandi worked with people, young and old, using her kindness and positivity to guide them. Her heart was a big as an ocean. As a Life Skills Facilitator, she helped others find their footing on paths that were sometimes steep and unsteady. Later, as a hairdresser and makeup artist at Brandt’s Creek Mews, she brought joy, the kind found in a well-cut curl, the right rosy shade, or a simple, shared laugh. Her humour was dry and she loved a good prank; she lit up making those around her laugh and smile.

Her strength and generosity will echo on, Sandi may have left us, but the mark she made on this world could never be erased.
