We Remember
LEONG, Walter Sing
December 23, 1934 — July 13, 2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Walter “Wally” Sing Leong. Born in Victoria to Chap Kwong Leong and Ellen Kate Nipp, he was the eldest son with six siblings.
Wally is survived by his wife Terry; children Kerry, Leslie, Michelle, Suzanne, Craig, and Serena; 18 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Shane Leong.
Wally will be forever remembered for his love of animals, especially horses. He began Canyon Farms, along with Terry, in 1986, and will leave a lasting legacy on breeding and racing in BC and Canada. A most notable achievement as home-breeders was winning the Queens’ Plate with “Strait of Dover” in 2012.
As an engineer and land developer, Wally made many great contributions to the Okanagan. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues, and will be fondly remembered for his brilliant ingenuity and generosity.
There will be a small memorial service on September 7, 2024. Please contact us at leslie@leslieleong.com if you would like to attend.

To Kerry and family: I met Wally many years ago just after moving to Crawford estates many years ago so sorry for your loss.

Wally was a great man. Great and Generous.
To Terry and family.
It is with sadness that I read about Wally’s passing.
I met Wally through the Thoroughbred race horse industry. Wally was always upbeat and positive about all aspects relative to racing. The glass was always half full and Wally was always talking about a young horse he and Terry had in training or the new foals they had at their farm.
Wally loved the racehorses and his genuine excitement when talking about them was the infectious !
Wally was one of the “good guys” in the race horse industry and he will be missed.
