We Remember

LIDSTER, Margaret “Peggy” Grace
April 2, 1934 — February 11, 2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Peggy Lidster on February 11, 2025 at the Kelowna General Hospital.
Peggy is survived by her loving Husband of 68 years Jim Lidster; her children Shanno (Richard) Burton, son Ken (Marne) Lidster, and son Peter Lidster. She is also survived by her two wonderful sisters Patricia Carpick of Vancouver, BC, and Lynne Murphy of Toronto, Ontario. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Jimmy Warner and Peggy’s eldest son David (Karen) Lidster.
A proud and loving grandmother Peggy found much joy in the lives of Steven, Taylor, Kate, Rory and Jake.
Peggy was born April 2, 1934 in Galt, Ontario to Margaret and Jimmy Warner. It was the Depression and jobs were scarce out East so the family returned to the Warner farm in Saskatchewan where Pat and Lynne were born. Peggy grew up there, attending a one room country school. Her father Jimmy enlisted in the army and was killed in London, England in 1943. This was a heavy blow to the family as Marg was left a single parent. Peggy had to grow up quickly to help out and she was a wonderful big sister.
Peggy was able to attend Luther College in Regina for three years and then went on to study Home Economics at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. It was there that she perfected her cooking skills which she used to such advantage all her life. At one point she and her friend, Barbara, cooked and served dinner for the visiting Archbishop of Canterbury. In her graduating year, she was elected President of her College and won a cow milking contest on the steps of Convocation Hall, her proudest moment.
In 1957 Peggy met and married Jim Lidster while she was teaching Home Economics in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and Jim was doing his Teacher’s Practicum.
The happy couple then moved to Chatham, Ontario where their first child David was born and then on to Outlook, Saskatchewan where they completed their family with three more children (Shanno, Ken and Peter). While in Outlook Peggy and Jim became members of the Kinsmen
and Kinette Club. Through this organization as well as curling and golf, Peggy and Jim met many terrific long term friends.
Soon after Jim took a teaching job in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and then in 1967 the couple moved to Kelowna, B.C. where they lived for the rest of their married life. Jim taught school in Westbank and Winfield while Peggy taught for a few years at Dr. Knox Secondary School. While in Kelowna Peggy became known for her wonderful parties. It was not unusual for several cars to be parked at the Lidster household to celebrate Grey Cup or holiday events. Peggy was also known for her picnics! For her children it seemed like not a month went by without a picnic where friends and family gathered to enjoy tasty goodies Peggy had
prepared.
After Jim and Peggy purchased the Shady Rest Campground in Westbank, Peggy would invite friends and campers to cocktail parties and barbecues. Then once they turned the Shady Rest into a mobile home park, Peggy organized Canada Day parades, corn feeds and salmon roasts for park residents.
Peggy was at her happiest surrounded by friends and family. She was an awesome storyteller and often the life of the party. Everyone loved Peggy!
Once Peggy and Jim sold the Shady Rest they spent over 20 years going South to Scottsdale, Arizona. Jim would play baseball and Peggy would golf and entertain. Family and friends would visit and be treated royally.
Peggy was also a wonderful friend. For many years she would meet with her circle of eight good friends at Bridge to eat, laugh and play. Then whenever a friend had a problem Peggy would listen with a keen ear and offer up sound advice. Bridge was their therapy for life! Peggy was a fantastic wife, mother and grandmother. She was truly good at almost everything!
In lieu of flowers please donate to one of Peggy’s many charities The Canadian Red Cross Society.
Oh and please take your family and friends out for a picnic and think of our Peggy!

Hello. I am so sorry to hear about Peggy’s passing. I was just searching her name for Saskatchewan’s Kinsmen & Kinettes! We are celebrating our Telemiracle (telethon) 50th Anniversary next year and are trying to locate all of our previous members. Peggy was our first Kinette Co-ordinator, so that means she was the “leader” of all of the Kinettes in the province in 1966 to 67. I am sure I will come across a photo of her when I go through our office memorabilia. The Kinsmen Governor she partnered with was Ted Sample, who is deceased. Anyways once again I’m sorry for your loss and if you have any memories of her as a Kinette that you would like to share that would be lovely. Kind regards, Rosanne Robin, former Kinette Governor, District 3 (Saskatchewan)
Our sincere condolences on the passing of “Auntie Peg”, as she was so fondly referred to by my siblings and myself. Auntie Peg was a sweet woman and I have many great memories of visiting her and Uncle Jim at Shady Rest during the summer months of my youth. May you reminisce and take joy in your own precious memories of your mother during this very difficult time in your lives. Thinking of you all with love. xxoo
