We Remember
LOEWEN, Karen Wendy
March 31, 1955 — May 22, 2024
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Karen Wendy Loewen (née Whyte) on May 22, 2024, at the age of 69.
Karen was born on March 31, 1955 in Victoria, BC. On May 17, 1974, Karen married the love of her life, Gregory Loewen. They moved around BC for many years to support Greg’s career in Highway design and construction, until they decided to settle in South Slocan in 1989. Karen began her career as a teacher’s assistant, specializing in working with those with special needs. Karen loved to make a difference in everyone’s lives. She made such an impact while working at LV Rogers that a plaque still hangs in her honour. In 2010, she retired from working as a teacher’s assistant and started working with Greg consulting for highways. In 2014, Karen and Greg retired and began their adventures together. They loved spending winters in Arizona, seeing the world, and spending time with family.
Karen is survived by her husband, Greg Loewen; son, Steven Loewen, and daughters, Sabrina Elliott (Jim) and Melissa Jahn (Justin); and grandchildren, Carissa, Alyssa, Oakley, and Gavin; as well as her father, Edward Whyte; sisters, Debbie Jennings, Penny Johns (Ken), and Tammy Kundakcioglu (Alex); and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Joy Whyte; her in-laws, Jacob and Helen Loewen; and sadly, her daughter Carissa Loewen.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
