We Remember

LORINCZ, Mike

August 11, 1941 — November 20, 2023

It is with both heavy and joyful hearts that we announce the loss of Mike Lorincz, who passed away peacefully in Kelowna, British Columbia, at the age of 82.

Mike goes to join his beloved partner Karin, and many family members who went before him, including his four brothers — Steve, George, Joe, and Andy, as well as many really close and dear friends. It will be a party in heaven upon his arrival! Left to treasure his memory are his daughter Norma; son Michael; and grandchildren Alisha and Mishka. As well as his sister Barbara; brother-in-law Nick; many nieces and nephews; and several close friends whom he loved and adored.

Born on August 11, 1941, to George and Barbara Lorincz in the farming community of Genesee, Alberta, Mike was the youngest of 6 children.  Farm life instilled in him the value of nature, hard work, to be ingenious, and to always lend a helping hand wherever needed. Mike worked at ATCO Gas (then Northwestern Utilities) for 33 years, starting as a meter reader and retiring as a Chief of Customer Service. He loved his work life.

Mike is fondly remembered for his giving and hardworking personality that shone through in his drive to help those in need. He was a social butterfly, making friends wherever he went with his outgoing and fun-loving sense of humour and generosity. He loved cooking with his speciality being breakfast. He loved music and dancing. He loved the outdoors and taking walks in nature; so much so that he learned to identify birds by their song! Mike loved adventures. In his younger years, it was camping, never going to the same place twice and where possible never using main highways! In later years it was motels across Canada; trips to England, Thailand, and Europe, including a cruise down the Rhine River. He loved spending time with family and friends, woodwork, renovations, and putzing around in the garage and backyard

Mike will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched.

Remembrance

How swiftly the sands of time drift towards eternity,
and far too soon, those we love have reached that
new horizon far beyond our earthly sight;
but we were not yet ready to let them go.

Still, in memory they will not be absent. For, as a
haunting melody returns again and again, they will
gently tiptoe back across the bridges of our minds to
sojourn with us – in our laughter, in our tears:

They will call us in birds songs at dawn
beckon in springtime’s new-born flowers
wave from summer’s sun-kissed waters
whisper in softly falling leaves
caress us in crystal snowflakes
peek at us from sunset’s splendour;
and looking back, we shall celebrate
the seasons of their lives.

So today, we hold within our hearts a treasure box
of precious memories to be forever cherished;
for ours were the golden moments of a lifetime.
We are so truly grateful
for the sunshine of their lives;
we shall always remember.

Norma B. Clare

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Edmonton, Alberta.
