We Remember
LOWES, Myrna Anne (nee Pufahl)
October 6, 1936 — February 22, 2016
Myrna passed away peacefully in Kelowna General Hospital on February 22, 2016 at the age of 79. She is survived by her son Gordon (Nicole) of Lake Country; daughter Christine (Stephen) of Vancouver; step grandsons Michael and Nicholas; and brother Dennis, niece Heather and nephews David and Jeffrey, all of Saskatoon.
Myrna was born in Naicam, SK. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and University of Toronto with a degree in social work. In 1960 she married Larry Lowes in Weyburn, and in 1964 the family moved from Saskatoon to Kelowna.
Myrna enjoyed a long and rewarding career in social work. In 1987 she moved from Kelowna to work in the Prince George area and then onto Vancouver and Victoria. She considered herself fortunate her work took her to many areas of BC. In 2001 she moved to Vancouver and returned to Kelowna last month.
While in Vancouver, Myrna did volunteer work at the Cancer Lodge and Brock House where she made warm and supportive friendships. A highlight of the week was Thursday morning bridge with good friends. Myrna loved to travel and visited many countries. Her favorite holidays were theatre weeks in London, and walking in Northern England. She will be remembered fondly for her intellectual curiosity, love of reading and good literature.
Special thanks and appreciation to friends, old and new in Vancouver and Kelowna, for their kindness, generosity and support. There will be no service as requested. A small family gathering will be held at a later date.

Such a beautiful picture of Aunt Myrna and beautifully written obituary. I am thinking about you both, Gord and Christine, and truly wish I was closer. I thought the world of Aunt Myrna and wished I could have spent more time with her. She was so well read and full of interesting stories to share. As well, my Dad and her shared so many similar traits- it was nice to see those similarities!
Gordon and Christine,
I was so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. We first met in 1955 at the UofS and were lucky to re-connect in Kelowna later where we enjoyed time together playing bridge and with our young families. She was a wonderful friend and loved time with children. Stew and I enjoyed our family dinners with all of you. Hazel and Stew Andreen
I am so sorry we have lost Myrna, she was a wonderful person, and Social Worker. We worked together for a few years, and kept in touch for years. She will be in our hearts forever.
She was always an amazing lady. My sincere sympathy to all Myrna’s family. She talked about her children with pride and love always.
Gordon and Christine: I am so very sorry to hear of your mom Myrna’s passing. I was trying to reach her today and my search led me here. I worked with Myrna in Prince George, and we continued our friendship in Vancouver once Myrna moved here. She was a wonderful person, so full of life. I will always have wonderful memories of her and the times we spent together. My sincere condolences to your family.
