We Remember

LUBE, Lorne George

March 19, 1942 — January 8, 2024

After 81 years of adventures on this earth, two-stepping hundreds of miles around the dance floor at the OK Corral, and bestowing thousands of “Tidbits of Wisdom” on all of us, Lorne has taken his leave.

Lorne leaves to grieve his beloved wife and best friend of 58 years, Rose; children, Shannon Jenner (Mike), Dion, Evelyn (Tom Shields), Jennifer (Greg Paynton); and grandchildren, Phaidra (Chris), Caleb (Tess), Thalia (Andrew), Randal, Aaron, Keith, Nicholas, Kyla, Dayton (Robyn), Holli, Sara, and Dayna; as well as many great-grandchildren, friends, and extended family members too numerous to count; and his only surviving sibling, Roy Lube (Pat).

Lorne was born in Kelowna, BC, and was the third child of Arnold and Hazel Lube.  He graduated from Kelowna Secondary School and then capitalized on his artistic talents by becoming a journeyman sign painter.  He and Rose moved to Prince George, BC in 1965, where they operated their sign making business and raised their family until returning to the Okanagan in 1990.

Lorne was a compassionate and caring man who shared his fantastic sense of humour and endless optimism with everyone around him.  He had a creative nature and this, coupled with his sense of humour, allowed him to produce the (questionable) stories that he left us all to ponder.   His guidance, love, and presence in our lives will be deeply missed.  Regrettably, he left without telling us where he kept Superman’s cape and without successfully teaching all his grandchildren to dance.  You know who you are.

A special thank-you to the team who cared for Lorne during his illness, and especially those who cared for him at home during his final weeks. Your compassion and energy was so appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A Memorial Service will be held later this spring.

  • Cindy Lorenz IHA says:

Rose and family, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Lorne was a fabulous man with the most amazing stories. I loved hearing about his adventures and infinite wisdom while my coworkers and I cared for him. He always went out of his way to make us smile, laugh or instill a few fun facts into our heads, I always left your home with a happy heart. You both are one of a kind. This one will stick with me for the long haul 💕

    Cindy xx

  • CAIN DERICKSON says:

The lump forming in my throat threatens to consume me and surely will at his Memorial service this spring, as we remember a fabulous man, with a spirit that could make the most stoic of us all smile ear to ear. My memories are many, and cherished, wishing I had more to hold onto as they slowly fade away with time as I too will fade away someday. Hopefully we meet again in the great beyond if there is such a place for the forgotten memories of us all to reunite once again.

  • George Fosbery says:

Condolences and deepest sympathies to you Rose and all your family. Lorne will be greatly missed but always remembered!
