We Remember
LUKAWESKY, Walter
November 25, 1927 — October 31, 2024
It is with great sadness and profound love that we announce the loss of Walter Lukawesky, who passed away in the comfort of his home on October 31, 2024, at the age of 96.
Left to hold him dear to their hearts are his children Kenneth (Anna), and Wayne (Susan); grandchildren Stephanie (Justin), Stacy, Sheri (Tomas), Cara (Jimmy), and Chantel (Jay); great-grandchildren Austin, Arwyn, Ava, and Luka; and younger siblings, John (Nora), Victor, Russell (Denise), Henry, Elizabeth, Pat, Jane, and Jeanette; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his beloved wife Lena; parents Stephen and Millie; brother Peter; sister-in-law Oletha; brothers-in-law Ray and Len; and daughter-in-law June.
Walter was born on November 25, 1927, in Opal, Alberta, the oldest of nine siblings, and he grew up in Edmonton, AB. In 1964, he moved from Edmonton to British Columbia, where he began working at a Chrysler dealership, dedicating years to the automotive industry before retiring at 63. Never one to stay idle, Walter continued to contribute to his community by serving on the Wedgewood Strata board and also volunteering for the maintenance/landscape crew, where his meticulous and organized nature was invaluable.
Walter’s keen eye for detail extended to his love of photography and taking videos, through which he became the family historian. He also captured memories from his travels to destinations such as Hawaii, the Philippines, Puerto Vallarta and the Mayan Riviera, as well as on cruises through the Suez Canal and Alaska, and many other trips to the US.
Walter loved his family and often took his sons on camping adventures, exploring the lush ferns and towering cedars near Hope, BC, and basking in the sunshine and lakes of the Okanagan Valley.
An active man, he played hockey well into his 80s with various the “old timers” leagues, and he also enjoyed golf and slow-pitch. Known for his clean, organized approach to life and a subtle sense of humour, Walter was a memorable presence whose kindness and dedication will be deeply missed by his Wedgewood family and all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held on November 23, 2024, at 10:00 am (PST), located at Springfield Funeral Home (2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC).
