We Remember

MACDONALD, Valorie “Val” Olga

April 28, 1952 — November 25, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Valorie, a caring wife and sister, on November 25, 2020. Valorie was born to Anthony and Elli Kvietinskas on April 28, 1952, in Sydney, Australia. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Rod, and her brother and sister-in-law Peter (Karen) Kvietinskas. She also leaves to mourn her cousin Valerie Grabar and family in Winnipeg, Manitoba; in Lithuania her aunt Janina Skarniene and family; her uncle Kazimirus (Onute) Kvietinskas and family.

Valorie has resided at the Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Course since 1996 and made many friends through playing golf and the various activities that have taken place throughout the years. For several years Val and Rod spent the winter months in Sun City West, AZ. Valorie always looked forward to playing golf and socializing with other Gallagher’s residents also wintering in Sun City West.

Valorie was such a good person and loved by all who knew her. She will be remembered as a kind-hearted woman, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family.

Valorie had many passions in life. Two of her favorites were gardening and golf: the landscaping around their houses at Gallagher’s Canyon and Sun City West, AZ were not only meticulously maintained, but also beautifully laid out; Valorie and Rod enjoyed many rounds of golf at Gallagher’s Canyon and Sun City West.

In her final hours, Valorie was surrounded by her family who are grateful to have been able to hold her hand and share the final goodbyes.

A heartfelt thank-you goes to the Cancer Centre staff, the Kelowna General Hospital staff, Central Okanagan Hospice House staff, and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) staff, with special mention for Dr. Mike Purden, Dr. Jade Dittaro and Nurse Nicky for the professional and compassionate care that Valorie was given while she was assisted to end her suffering.

The family would also like to express their gratitude to all the staff for the empathy and kindness so freely given in those difficult moments.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valorie’s memory to the BC Cancer Foundation, www.bccancer.bc.ca.

In view of the COVID RESTRICTIONS, a private family graveside service at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery will be held later this spring to honour Valorie MacDonald, with Reverend Patricia Giannelia officiating.

Remembering you will be easy
We’ll do it every day!
It’s the heartache of losing you
That will never go away.
