We Remember
MACINNIS, Denis
December 7, 1935 — December 30, 2017
We are saddened to announce the death of Denis MacInnis on December 30, 2017 at Spring Valley Care Home in Kelowna. At the age of 82, Denis passed away peacefully with his loving wife of 56 years by his side.
Denis was born on December 7, 1935 in Summerside P.E.I. At the age of 21, he ventured to British Columbia to find work, and on the train met a girl named Stacy Tutt from Kelowna. The young couple traveled three days on the train together, continued to write letters after, and married four years later. Denis and Stacy MacInnis first lived in Fort St. John BC and eventually settled in Kelowna.
After working in the gas industry in northern BC, Denis went on to be the proud owner of MacInnis Apiaries producing wonderful Okanagan honey. Bee keeping and honey production continued to be a loved hobby, even while he moved on to work with Manulife for several years before retiring in 2001.
Denis was always ready with a smile and eager to lend a helping hand. He was very active in the community and the church including Knights of Columbus, Cursillo, Father Pandosy Mission, Hospital Board, Okanagan Historical Society, and A.A. “there but for the grace of God go I.” Denis loved nature and animals and long walks with his canine companion. He enjoyed gatherings with lots of family and friends and genuinely loved to share a laugh.
He is survived by his wife Stacy and their four children, Tom (Maureen), Lee (Yvonne), Rob (Tally), and Alison (Colin), grandchildren Brodie, Aidan, Mairéad, Christina, Colby, Ceara, and great grandchild, Owen. He is also survived by his sisters Sr. Ollie and Beryl and his brother Don. Denis is predeceased by his parents Wendell and Marguerite, sisters Myra and Janet, and brothers Bill and Gerry.
We wish to thank the nurses and care givers at Spring Valley Care Home for all their wonderful care and kindness.

I remember Denis with great fondness both from a personal as well as on a professional level. I loved his contagious laugh, his warm heart and his generous spirit. Working on a Cursillo weekend with Denis was a spirit filled inspiration. His love of family and community was so openly evident. I extend to Stacy and family my deep sympathy for your loss with the knowledge that you are well aware that Denis is with his Savior.
Many blessings for peace, Tom and Mary Ann Smithwick
