We Remember
MAEERS, Sidney Philip
January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, left us peacefully at the age of 90, on February 18, 2013. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Carkner (John) of Fredericton, NB, son Gary Maeers (Richelle) of Kelowna and six grandchildren, Jennifer, Meagan Henheffer (Michael), Jeremy, Dylan, Allison and Taryn Tymofichuk (Derek). Predeceased by his wife of sixty six years, Penny, and his sister Florence. He was a volunteer, Officer and Aircrew with the 432nd RCAF Halifax Bomber Squadron stationed at East Moor in Yorkshire during WWII. Sidney went on to graduate schooling at the University of Toronto, had a successful career with the Federal Government, raised his family with Penny in Ottawa and retired to the Okanagan in 1983. Retirement brought travel, volunteer work and grandchildren to the fore. Sid was keen and active in all of these endeavours. He will be missed beyond comprehension. A very special thank you to the truly extraordinary team in the “Dobbins” neighbourhood at “The Village at Smith Creek” who provided and cared for him in his declining years so far beyond what we could ever have hoped. A private family service will be held at a later date, to reunite Sid with Penny and to celebrate the arrival of the great granddaughter he didn’t quite get to embrace. Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the RCAF Memorial Foundation.

Gary & Richelle,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dear Family members,
As a retired Director of Volunteer Services at KGH, I knew Penny and Syd so well and they were both outstanding volunteers. We had many laughs together and I send my deepest sympathy and special thoughts to you all as you remember your Dad. Syd (as we spelled it then) was so great and will be missed.
Hugs to all, Sharon Leveque
We were just looking at my sister Helene Hlokoff’s obituary, and came across Sid’s. We knew both Penny and Sid from the Kelowna Lawn Bowling Club. They were both enthusiastic and loved bowling, until their health did not allow them to. We often think of them, as we used to look after the flowers on a Tuesday, throughout the bowling season. Wonderful couple. Our deepest condolences to the family. May you rest in Peace Sid. Ann and Jim
