We Remember

MAETCHE, Thelma

May 21, 1932 — September 8, 2024

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Thelma Maetche at the young age of 92.

She was the glue that held the family close and will be missed each and every day.

Thelma is survived by three daughters, Linda of Calgary; Jori Ann, Kelowna; and Patti (Robbie) of Kelowna; grandchildren, Tai, Corey (Kyla), Erin, Chris (Brittany), Jenna (Jessica), Hannah, Ray-Ann, and Mikyla; grandson-in-law Aaron; great-grandchildren Hunter, Mara, and Jake.

Thelma was predeceased by her beloved husband Lawrence; sons Gary and Terry; sons-in-law Moeses and Cam; daughter-in-law Lori; granddaughter Heather; as well as many family members.

Thelma was born in Hanna, Alberta, and was the youngest of 10 children in the Fielding family. She resided in the family home until she turned 18 and married. She met the love of her life at age 14 by attending a country dance at the Handhills Club House. As luck would have it, Lawrence came to the vehicle to meet her. He opened the door, and she literally fell into his arms. The rest was history. She and Lawrence resided in Handhills, Hanna, Calgary, and Kelowna, and retired in Lake Country.

Our mother will be remembered for her kindness, gentleness, and her extreme love of her close and extended family and friends. She is the last of an era and cherished by all. She had no harsh words for anyone, except for those rare brave souls that would try to touch her feet.

Those lucky enough to have met Thelma will always remember the coffee pot on and a meal at the ready. She will be remembered for her love of animals big and small and her yard as a haven for any birds.

We will remember your open arms in waiting for hugs and the joy in your eyes when the kids stopped by for short or extended stays. Grandma’s was the home away from home filled with love beyond measure.

Rest well, you beautiful soul. We’ve got it from here.
