We Remember
MALLETT, Gordon George
December 14, 1939 — September 17, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon George Mallett of Kelowna, British Columbia, on September 17, 2025, at the age of 85. Gordon died peacefully with his wife, Doris, at his side.
Gordon was born in Camrose, Alberta and grew up in the town of Stettler. He devoted his career to education, living and working for many years in Edmonton at Alberta Vocational Centre (Norquest), where he inspired and supported countless students. Later in his career, Gordon took part in an international project in Singapore, serving as the senior consultant in the development of a mathematics curriculum. This work produced a series of textbooks and marked one of the most rewarding chapters of his professional life.
Gordon is survived by Doris, his beloved wife of 34 years, whom he met during his time in Singapore. Together they shared a life filled with travel, family, friends, and countless games of cribbage. Their adventures took them across Canada, throughout Southeast Asia and the Mediterranean, and most memorably on cruises along the BC and Alaskan coast to view the glaciers. As an avid walker, Gordon frequently posted pictures from his travels hiking with Doris, holding his walking stick and wearing his favourite hat.
Gordon is lovingly remembered by his sons Charles (Heather) and Jonathan, as well as his six grandchildren: Joshua, Samantha, Alexandra, James, Christopher and Miles. He was predeceased by his son Stephen, his parents Ivan and Blanche, and also by his sister Fern and her husband Jim.
Gordon had a lifelong love of aviation history, particularly the pioneering flights in Alberta that carried the first airmail to remote northern communities. He authored numerous articles and a book on the subject and proudly exhibited his extensive collection of early airmail memorabilia at conventions across Canada.
Gordon will be remembered for his curiosity, his devotion to learning, his kindness, and his deep love of family. His warmth, humour, and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
In accordance with Gordon’s wishes, there will be no formal service. His ashes will be spread in Alberta and Singapore at private family gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House, or to a charity of your choice.
