We Remember
MALONE, George Anthony Gerard
November 23, 1928 — December 10, 2024
It is with great sadness and profound love that we announce the loss of George Malone, who passed away peacefully at the age of 96, while surrounded by family on December 10, 2024, at Kelowna General Hospital.
George is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Olga “Ollie”; sons Barry (Patti) and Wayne (Barbara); grandchildren Kristin (Jeff), Kevin (Andrea), Brettelle, Broden, and Shauna; great-grandchildren Charlie, Jessie, and Spencer; as well as his sister Margaret.
George was born on November 23, 1928, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Thomas and Anna Malone. He began his career working for Esso during the early days of Edmonton’s oil and gas industry, contributing to a rapidly growing sector. George later transitioned to becoming an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, a role that took him to the Far North in Alert, Nunavut where he maintained planes in demanding conditions. In Edmonton, George met Ollie, and they shared over 70 years together. They started their family with the birth of their first son, Barry, before moving to Calgary, where their second son, Wayne, was born.
A private and practical man, George was known for his intellect, his love of reading and wine, his enjoyment of camping, and his appreciation for a good deal. In retirement, he embraced a snowbird lifestyle, spending winters in Arizona and Mexico, often remarking that he needed to “thaw out.” Above all, George valued his family and the life they built together.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends will each honour George in their own ways. No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Children’s Hospital.

I will miss our visits Uncle George. Always the great host, offering a warm hug and a glass of wine. Rest In Peace ❤️
Very sorry to hear of Uncle George’s passing. I was lucky enough to speak with him over the phone about a month ago from my mom’s (Margaret) old age facility room. He was sharp as ever and we had a great conversation.
My deepest condolences and God bless
I am saddened to hear of Uncle George’s passing. I will never forget the flight he took me on from Edmonton to Calgary when I was 7 years old. That started my love of aviation which later became my career for over 35 years. I’ll also never forget the camping/trailering we did to Penticton in my youth with my parents where Uncle George always found the perfect spot to park under the cherry trees! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for him and pass along my sincere condolences to Auntie Ollie, Barry and Wayne.
