To the Markgraf Family…
Henry was a wonderful, energetic and enthusiastic man with a contagious smile. He left a positive influence on his family and friends and this city. It was a privileged to know him. My late husband, Barry, always enjoyed time spent with Henry. They had many lively discussion over all things regarding Kelowna. In the days ahead, as you adjust to your grief, may you find great comfort in the shared memories of a life well lived and loved.
In sincere sympathy,
Betty Urness
Mrs. Markgraf, Hank, Darcel, and Boys. I always remember Mr. Markgraf as being a bigger than life figure. He will be greatly missed. His legacy will live on through his family and all the contributions he made for Kelowna as a Councillor and City Manager. A life well lived!
Dear Frieda, Herb, Hank, and family.
I was so sorry to hear of Henry’s passing. I have great memories of fellowship, discussions, arguments, but always great hospitality. For a newcomer to Kelowna, it was a wonderful and memo rable time. Blessings to each of you at this time.
Sorry I cannot attend on Saturday as we are back east, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you at that time.

We are sad to hear of Henry’s passing and share our sorrow with the entire family. In so many ways, Henry was a pioneer. His achievements and service to Kelowna will be a legacy far larger than even his grand personality. Whether building KGH, managing a large orchard business or serving at the City, Henry had big ideas and vitality. He was a master carpenter, wood carver, triathlete and orchardist among many things. He could master any task he got into his head and could inspire others to strive. I remember so many days at the farm house, bold laughter and intense discussion in equal measure. The quality of men witnessed in his two boys is perhaps the most enduring legacy- a tribute for any man not just a pioneer.
Best wishes, to the family. The Smiths
Dear Hank and Darcel,
Sadly I am reading about the passing away of Henry Markgraf. My heart goes out to you at this time. Henry was a very special person who enjoyed life to the fullest. I used to enjoy his coming to the KGH cafeteria where I worked. His pictures in the paper show a very handsome man with very bright eyes. Life is just too short. God bless you all as you lay Henry down to sleep. Remember he is resting in his Savior’s loving arms for the time being–is my belief.
Love,
Marie
So saddened to hear of Henry’s passing. He was someone for whom I had respect for his wisdom and vision as we both served our city for many years. Those were good years. He will be missed by many who had the privilege to know and work with him. Unable to attend his remembrance service but our thoughts and prayers will be there. Blessings to all the family…….
My condolences to the family. I have such fond memories of Henry. As a new employee to the City and working the red eye shift, you can imagine my surprise to find someone swimming in the pool at 5:30 in the morning. I can still hear him laughing about the scare I had. Thank you Henry for the memories and support all the years at the Parkinson Recreation Centre.
Our thoughts are with your family at this sad and difficult time. May you find strength in the love you share with family and friends. Henry will live on in the memories of those that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Take care.
Ed & Shannon
Dearest Frieda,
You have been in my thoughts frequently over the past week and so last night I looked online for your phone number. This upsetting news was instantly at the top of the results list.
I have only warm memories of Henry. He was an accomplished, dynamic individual and I’ve never met a stronger person in my life. He showed me great kindness and I have nothing but gratitude for having known him.
I know you will be missing your blue-eyed boy. I so wish I could be there to give you a hug.
With much love to you and all the family this Australian Christmas morning,
Deirdre
