We Remember
MARTYNA, Mitchell Scurfield
June 8, 1985 — August 30, 2023
With profound sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Mitchell Scurfield Martyna (38) on August 30, 2023, a vibrant soul who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Mitchell was a force of energy and creativity, a passionate lover of art, with a special talent for drawing. He excelled in music and was fluent in multiple languages, including German, French, Spanish, and his mother tongue, English. Athletic and adventurous, Mitchell enjoyed swimming, skiing, Tae Kwon Do, and other random fun tricks like backflips, the unicycle, and bike jumps.
Yet, beyond his many accomplishments, it was his unwavering compassion that truly defined him. He championed the underdog and listened with genuine curiosity to the stories of others, always eager to understand the “why” behind their experiences.
Mitchell battled with mental and physical illness. He slipped through the cracks of a frustrating system.
Mitchell is survived by his two beloved daughters, Lilo and Suzy; his devoted parents, Mitch and Kathy; his cherished siblings and their partners, Scott (Laura), Cameron (Katlyn), Ian, and Brett (Sally); as well as his loving paternal grandparents, Justine and Mitch. He leaves behind a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends from all walks of life, all of whom were touched by his kindness and zest for life.
Mitchell’s departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will forever shine bright in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A private Celebration of Life will be held to honour him.
