March 21, 1938 — May 15, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of cherished wife and mother, Sonia Maskall, surrounded by loved ones, on Monday, May 15, 2023, at 85 years of age. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Stephen, and daughters, Autumn and Aurora.
Sonia was born on March 21, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario. She excelled in school and worked as an x-ray technician at Toronto General Hospital following graduation. It was in Toronto where she met the love of her life, Stephen, at a church dance. The two were instantly smitten and soon were married in Vancouver, B.C. Ultimately, they relocated to Grand Forks where they raised their family. Happily married for 62 years, Sonia and Stephen were true soulmates. They loved to entertain and had a broad and diverse cross-section of valued friends. They also loved to travel and spent many years making memories while traveling together.
Sonia will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will live on through her family and friends and will be in our hearts forever. All who had the privilege of knowing her will remember her kindness, intelligence, and creativity.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gwen Campbell, the nurses, and the support staff at Ivy House for the professionalism, support, understanding, love, and kindness they provided to Sonia during her stay.
There will be a Private Graveside Service for Sonia for immediate family on Tuesday May 23, 2023, at 11:30 AM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 2850 Dry Valley Rd #50. Father Chad Pawlyshyn will be presiding with Interment to follow.
