We Remember

Maurer, George

November 28, 1921 — July 4, 2012

George passed away peacefully on July 4, 2012.  He is survived by his loving wife Molly of 68 years, three children, Brian (Irene), Warren (Ann-Marie) and Judy (Barry), five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, his brother Edward and sister Lydia.  Predeceased by his parents Peter and Mathilda Maurer and sisters Emma and Frieda.  George’s career included farming and building construction in Saskatchewan and then worked for Sears in Kelowna until his retirement. His greatest pleasure in life was his family and particularly family gatherings.

He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir for much of his adult life. George enjoyed a number of sports and other activities including softball, curling, camping, dancing and travelling.   The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the many people who have attended to George’s health and comfort in the past few years, especially Dr. Steinruck and the staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews and Mountain View Village.  A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 4091 Lakeshore Road, Kelowna, on Monday, July 9th at 1:30 PM.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

We were very saddened to hear that Uncle George passed away. I tried to make arrangements to attend the funeral, but it just didn’t work.
I have many fond memories of Uncle George and the times I spent at the house, either at the farm or in Melville. Merv and I were homoured to have him give the toast to the bride at our wedding.
Cherish the good memories you have of him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Molly, Brian, Warren & Judy. My condolences on my cousin George’s passing. I’ll always remember how he and my Dad would often have a good laugh at some comment one or the other made in German. I’d usually laugh along, even tho I had almost no idea what the heck they said. Love to you all.
