We Remember

MAY, Penni Lynn (née Botham)

January 31, 1957 — November 22, 2019

After a long battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful little Penni at the age of 62 at Hospice House November 22, 2019.  She was an amazing person whom I loved dearly; I will miss her every day.

She was born in Vancouver, BC January 31, 1957 and moved to Kelowna, BC in the early 1960’s, attending schools in Glenmore and KSS where she graduated in 1975. She made many lifelong friends during her school years.  Several of them “Team Penni” sat with and cared for her during the past two weeks of her journey.

She was a fine athlete. Pen loved field hockey, playing for KSS and UVIC where she graduated in 1980. Penni loved golf and was a popular member of KGCC. An enthusiastic jogger, she ran in the Blooms Day run in Spokane, WA several times. She swam in the annual across the lake event and skated for the Kelowna Figure Skating Club for years and was a silver medallist in 1974. Other pursuits included slow pitch, skiing, and dragon boat racing. She was a Lady of the Lake contestant in 1974.

Penni made friends everywhere, whether on the job as a social worker, on vacation, at a function, even with the amazing group of caring nurses and doctors that walked beside her these past few years. If she made up her mind to be your friend it was impossible to stop her. As her husband, I witnessed this day after day. Right to the end she had a passion for life and people.

Penni is survived by her loving husband Jack; stepsons Scott (Sandi) of Victoria, Tim (Norma-Jean) of Victoria, and Rusty (Lindsay) of Calgary; eight Grandchildren: Samara, Saisha, Sela, Hudson, Cohen, Westin, Ellis, and Wyatt.  As well as many dearly loved cousins, nieces, aunts, and uncles.  Penni was predeceased by her Mother- Lois Botham, and Father- Jack Botham.

Our family and friends would like to thank the doctors, nurses, volunteers, and staff of the Kelowna Cancer Centre who fought so hard to help Pen. Also, our sincere thanks to the staff at Hospice House and the palliative care nurses for their superb care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 1:00 at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club, 1297 Glenmore Dr, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre in Kelowna BC in her name www.bccancer.bc.ca.

“Love you Pen.” Love you more!…

  • Corinne Wade says:

To Jack and family: I will always hold a vision of Penni as someone who was full of joy, endless compassion, exuberance, vitality and wit. I cherished my lively conversations with her as she’d excitedly tell me about her latest travels and adventures with Jack and how she’d be eagerly planning her next travel get away with him. I loved to watch her energetically power walk and have a childlike spring in her step as she’d be listening to her Jimmy Buffet playlist. She left this world too soon and will be dearly missed by all. Hugs and condolences to her close friends and family.
