We Remember
MAYHEW, Alfred Walter
—
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.”
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Alfred Walter Mayhew on Saturday June 17, 2017 in Kelowna, BC, with his family by his side.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Kathleen; daughters: Lorraine, Felicity, Precilla (Noor Jamal) and son Garry (Marcella); siblings Arthur, Eileen and Jenatte; grandchildren: Sean, Theren Jr., Lisa, Michael, Gabrielle, Theresa, Matthew, Farhaan and Kahlilah.
Alfred is pre-deceased by his parents Charles and Lily; brothers George (Liz) and Gordon (Sheila) and loving daughters: Mildred, Nora and Chedra (Theren).
He met and married the love of his life at the tender age of 19. Together they had 7 children, shared a strong Catholic faith, a profound love for Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary who guided and strengthened them both as they endured life’s tribulations and celebrated life’s joys. Alfred celebrated the birth of his 9 grandchildren and prayed daily for each of them by name.
We thank God for the gift of this remarkable husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. Alfred was known for his unshakable Catholic faith and our lives are forever changed by his witness and example. We will miss him forever and will continue to keep him in our hearts.
The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Ben Wiese for his care of Dad and also to the amazing team of KGH Palliative Care Nurses who helped us so much.
Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, June 21st at 7:00 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 22nd at 10:30 am, both at Immaculate Conception Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC. A Graveside Service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church towards Masses to be said for souls in purgatory.
Job 1:21 – “Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall go back there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord!”

Gareth, my brother, my heart aches with your heart at his time as you mourn the passing of your precious Dad. Yet, our hearts rejoice also, knowing with absolute certainty that your Dad is right now in the Lord’s presences. The Lord that he served so faithfully to the very end of his life. I can just imagine him reciting Romans 8:38-39….For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. May God continue to bless and strengthen you and the rest of the family as you walk through this dark valley at this time.
Kathleen..I am so sad regarding the loss of your husband. I did not know him well beyond a greeting but i will miss his melodious voice at morning Mass at Icc. For me it was reassuring and very much an integral part of the Mass experience for me. My condolences to you and to your family on this very great loss.
