We Remember
MCCANN, Rita Dinita
October 29, 1933 — September 9, 2023
Born on October 29, 1933, Rita McCann peacefully departed from this world at the age of 89 September 9, 2023.
Rita is survived by her son, Michael Mccann; her son & daughter-in-law, Robert & Michelle Mccann; as well as her two grandsons, Noah and Logan. Sadly, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ivan.
Rita’s life began on a farm in Inglis, Manitoba, where her deep affection for animals and passion for cooking were nurtured. In 1955, she embarked on a lifelong journey with Ivan, exchanging vows in the same beloved town. Following a brief sojourn in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the couple settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where they welcomed and raised their two sons.
Later, the McCann family embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Regina, Saskatchewan, where Rita devoted herself to her role as a dedicated housewife and caregiver to her loved ones. During this time, she also developed a fondness for bridge, cribbage, and golf.
Retirement brought Rita and Ivan to Kelowna, BC in 1990. Rita and Ivan’s shared love for golfing remained a cherished activity. In addition to their rounds on the green, they found enjoyment in the summertime by taking up swimming in the refreshing waters of Lake Okanagan. They adventured around the world as they travelled extensively throughout Europe, where they immersed themselves in the rich tapestry of cultures and history the continent had to offer. The Caribbean and Mexico were also special places for them, where they explored the beauty of tropical landscapes and made unforgettable memories together.
Following the passing of Ivan, Rita embarked on a new chapter in her life by settling in Missionwood Retirement Resort. There, she appreciated the vibrant social atmosphere, with her favourite pastimes being leisurely walks and engaging games of bridge. In this welcoming community, Rita forged meaningful friendships and relished the companionship of her peers. These final years of her life were marked by contentment, as she embraced her golden years.
Rita will be sorely missed by her loved ones and friends. Her warmth, kindness, and the countless cherished memories she created will forever be a part of their hearts.

I am so sorry for your loss. Rita and I were part of a ladies afternoon bridge group that sadly folded during Covid. She will be remembered by us all as a witty, generous and very lovely lady – with card-shark playing skills!

Dear Michael, Robert, Michelle, Noah, and Logan. My deepest sympathies to you and your family in the passing of your mom and grandma. I will always remember the countless trips your mom and dad made to Inglis, to celebrate many events on the farm and in the Inglis area. We were so blessed to have spent many weekends as kids, playing with our cousins, visiting and ALWAYS LAUGHING. Your mom will be missed by everyone. Thinking of you and sending lotsa love and sincere sympathy. ❤️ Sandra Hall ( Allan and Austin too)
Dear Michael, Robert and Family,
Sending my deepest sympathy in the passing of your mom and grandmother Rita. She was very special to me and I so enjoyed the numerous phone calls about curling, our beloved Riders, what was happening in Kelowna in her life of all her social activities and her ability to always have such a great sense of wit and humour which allowed her to laugh about life! Over the years, we enjoyed your mom and dad’s kind and generous hospitality whenever we were in Kelowna. Your mom treated my sister and I like ‘adopted daughters’ and sure made us feel so special! This last visit in June will be forever cherished to come see your mom and have such a wonderful time with her. The time we spent with her, the conversations we had remembering so much from over the years and the lovely pictures along the lake that we took. She will be deeply missed by me, but forever remembered. Thinking of you and sending you much love your way.
Love, Tricia Mensch Regina, Sask.
Dear Michael and Robert ( and family), I was so sorry to hear that your mom passed away. Auntie Rita was a special lady with a wonderful sense of humor and a positive attitude. She had a great memory and I loved when she shared stories from the past. I’m going to miss our phone visits so much. We never ran out of things to talk about. Your mom and dad were always an important part of our Fingas family celebrations. Now they will be together once again. Rick and I send our love and condolences to you.
I was to read of Rita’s passing. I enjoyed my time and chats with Rita on my visits from NZ during my stay at Missionwood.
