We Remember
MCCLURE, Dorothy
—
McCLURE (Nee D’Ath) Dorothy Alice passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 after a rewarding life of 96 years. Predeceased by her husband Harold “Mac” McClure in 2006. Dorrie is survived by her loving family, son Ken (Pat) McClure, daughters Joan (Mustafa) Isik, Linda (Rod) Ward and her sister Dulcie McClure. Grandchildren Chris McClure, Shannon (Tyson) Bull, Stuart Ward, Sarah (Mark) Ogden and Cennet Isik. Great grandchildren Megan and Lauren Bull, Asia McClure, Asha and Ayva Odgen. Dorrie was born, educated and worked in Auckland, New Zealand. It was in Auckland that she met and married a handsome Kelowna born fellow. Dorrie, Mac and Dorrie’s sister Dulcie came to visit Mac’s family in Kelowna in 1940 and settled. Winter didn’t bother Dorrie, she was happy to live in a centrally heated home, looking after her family. For many years she was involved in the guilds of St. Andrews Anglican Church in the Mission and the Kelowna Kinette Club. In retirement Dorrie and Mac enjoyed winters in California. Dorrie happily spent her last years living at Hawthorne Park. We would like to give special thanks to Dr. R. Schriemer for his proactive care, all the staff of Hawthorne Park for their care and loving environment and Cottonwoods Ethel Glen staff for their care. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1480 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5Y5 or a charity of your choice. Dear Great-aunt Dorrie, always elegant and gracious in thought and expression; quick-witted and kind; and that’s how you’ll stay in my heart and mind. I’m so glad you enjoyed a long and lovely life. Here you are at my mom, Joyce’s, 80th All Girls Reunion in 2008 in Kelowna, with mom and Dulcie. Good times to remember. Condolences to all my great-cousins for your loss. Dorrie enriched all our lives.
Linda and family, so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Fondest of regards, Diane
