We Remember

McCulloch, Gladys Elizabeth

July 5, 1929 — December 24, 2023

Gladys passed away peacefully, with family at her side on December 24, 2023, in New Westminster, BC, at the age of 94.

Gladys is survived by her loving family: two daughters, Susan (Ron) Uremovich and Heather (Keith) Thomas; three grandchildren, Natasha (Matthew) Madalinski, Mitchell Thomas, and Stacey (Martin) Long; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Anastasia Madalinski; brother-in-law Frank (Kathie) McCulloch; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Murray, in 2004, and by her grandson, Sean Uremovich, in 2010.

Gladys Elizabeth was born the third of three children to Joseph and Susan (Holisko) Chmiel on July 5, 1929, in Brandon, MB.  Stories are told of her having a winning smile and loving personality, even at a very young age.  She touched the hearts of everyone she met.  The ultimate “people person”.  She loved everyone and was loved by all.

Gladys excelled at sports.  Many times she was called upon by instructors to “watch Gladys as she demonstrates for us.”  She was a member of a women’s volleyball team, a strong swimmer, a refined figure skater, and a fabulous dancer!

Gladys was extremely generous, never missing anyone’s birthday, and always putting others first.  She was very sentimental.  Everything had a story or reminded her of something or someone.

In their 50 years of marriage, Gladys and Murray had a great desire to relocate on numerous occasions to numerous cities throughout Canada and the United States.  When in Canada, Gladys worked for the T. Eaton Company.  Working in retail suited Gladys’ personality perfectly.  On one occasion, while living in Thunder Bay, she worked in the Toy Department.  Being personable and loved by fellow employees and clients alike, she warmly became known as the “Toy Lady”!

With her joyful and amazing outlook on life, her family would often comment that she had an extra “Happy Gene”, and widely acknowledges that this optimistic outlook played an important part in her long and fulfilled life.

We will always love and miss you Mom and Nana!  Until we meet again!
Love,
Your Family
