We Remember
MCINTOSH, Donald John
—
It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we say goodbye to Donald John McIntosh who passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013.
Donald was an educated, creative entrepreneur, a lover of skiing, football and travel, an avid reader and collector of great music. He had a strong sense of community, informed political opinions and believed all that were younger than he should have a healthy respect for their elders.
He didn’t consider himself a chef per say, but we will always remember his fantastic barbequed burgers, his signature pork-chop casserole and his family breakfast creation, Dreams. He could build a dog house that would withstand gale-force winds and joked that he went to the hardware store just to be sure they were still selling hammers.
All who knew Don knew him to be an honest, sincere, gentle man; straightforward, intelligent and a true lover of the Okanagan Valley and all it had to offer.
Donald is survived by his wife Odile, son Kent (Andrea), step-son Brad (Rose), step-daughter Vicky (Rick) and grandchildren Simone, Brianne, Rryla, Damond and Sadler. He was sadly predeceased by his daughter Lindsay.
There will be no service as per Don’s request. The family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Hello, Odile.
I am so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. He was certainly a man of opinion AND clarity, both of which I enjoyed and respected…as well as the aroma of his cigars! Stay strong through this time.
“Uncle Eb”.
Dear Odile:
I was so sorry to hear about Dons passing today, and so sorry for your loss to you and your family.
Don was a great guy and I enjoyed being involved with him politically. His sarcasm while I worked at CKIQ radio back in the 80’s was always welcomed! Kelowna loses a good guy.
Hi Odile…..I know we don’t know each other that well…just from Pickle Ball…but wanted to let you know I am thinking of you.. Sending prayers and strength and peace your way…
Sandi
Dear Odile and family.
I was saddened to read of Don’s passing.
He was a very talented man. I remember like yesterday how much he helped us get Sun Country Travel up and running almost 30 years ago. My condolences to the family. Karen Copp
Sorry to learn of your loss. It was a very thoughtful and caring notice in the newspaper.
A job well done in advocating for Don the last while.
Odile I’m so sorry to hear the news about Don. He was always one of my favorites at 2486 Highway 97 North. I remember spending many hours in the basement office talking politics! Mrs. McIntosh, Vicky, Kent, Bradley and families,
I will fondly remember our days at Big White and at the house on Clifton; the debates, the jokes, the trouble we caused and the tolerance Don had for our antics. You always knew where you stood with Don; sometimes I was scared stiff but mostly it brought a smile to my face. I hope the memories that you have of Don will bring you comfort. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love Janice.
Odile and family, our heartfelt and sincere condolences. Don was one of a kind. Kelowna was very lucky that THIS is the place he landed when he “went West”. He contributed in so many ways to our community. The School Board where he was Chair for many of those years. His start-up efforts for the Okanagan Sun. His leadership in advancing the word of free enterprise politics. His constant bugle blowing on how great Kelowna was as a place to live and do business. I personally owe a lot to Don for the wisdom he shared and advice he gave in many aspects of my business life. I remember fondly the seven years we spent together on the Beer and Wine “radio and TV” advertising Lobby trekking back and forth to Victoria. The time he spent helping others advance their careers and successes in life. Don was a mentor. For me personally, Don was a key player in my 5 successive “runs” for Civic office. Twice as Alderman and three times as Mayor.Ironically, and due to failing health, Don was not able to assist in my re-election bid for Mayor in 2005. I lost. Don did have an instinct and obviously a formula. It worked every time for Jim Stuart and also Bill Bennett. I am grateful to Don for what he did to help me. He also helped other people. Plus, he helped in so many ways to make for a better community.Don is gone but not forgotten. He has left a trail of positive actions to make Kelowna a better place for all of us. Odile, you must be very proud of Don for his various legacies.
Nice of you to remember ALL that he did for his community. Thank you for your very kind words. Our family will miss him dearly.
Dear Odile, I have a special place in my heart for Don. He was a great Board chair, a great advisor, and a wonderful companion for lunch at the Capri! While Don had many things to talk about, your trips to Barbados we’re always at the top of the list. Ron Rubadeau
Odile, it has taken me this long to write because it has taken this long to accept that our wonderful friend and great gentleman, Donald has left us. I know that he will always be in our hearts and minds and I know that he will be watching over you. He loved you so much and you took such tender care of him. xxxBob and Wendy
Thank you Wendy and Bob. We all had wonderful times together, and Donald will be missed.
