We Remember

MCKAY, Tanya Suzanne (née Zook)

July 18, 1986 — August 18, 2024

Tanya was born in Edmonton, AB, July 18, 1986.  She unexpectedly and suddenly went to be with her Lord on Aug 18, 2024 in Kelowna, BC after a short battle with cancer.

Tanya grew up in central Alberta where she met the love of her life Jamie, whom she married on March 10, 2006. Together, they began a life in Edmonton, where their son Tyson was born. The adventure continued as they made a move to Penticton, BC, where their second child, Tegan, was born. Their move to West Kelowna brought Jaden, Landen, and Dawson.  Last but not least, a move into Kelowna brought along their youngest, Braelyn.

As Tanya grew from childhood, to youth, to adulthood, her loving servant’s heart shone forth. Whether it was loving on her younger brother Jared, helping in communities she was involved with, Tanya had a reputation as one who could be counted to serve those around her.

In her youth she loved to dance, hip hop was her thing. She was quiet until she got to know you, and had a deep loyalty to her circle of friends. Very much a homebody, she was content to be at home surrounded with family and friends.

Growing up, Tanya loved every baby she could get her hands on.  As a mother of six, she excelled. She insured each one received much needed attention; birthdays were a big deal, as was Christmas. Tanya’s passion for creativity led her to complete many amazing crocheting projects for family and friends, and as an avid thrifter, she found many treasures people often overlooked.

Tanya was sadly predeceased by her father-in-law Bill McKay in 2018; as well as her only brother, Jared, in a July of 2021 workplace accident, which sadly left a huge hole in Tanya’s heart. She is survived by her husband Jamie; her six beautiful children; her parents Steven and Pam Zook; and mother-in-law, Sandy McKay; as well as many family members and friends.

Tanya’s life was one of love, creativity and deep connections.  As an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, her memory will be held close in the hearts of all of us who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Tanya’s life will be held on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2024, at 1:00 PM, located at GATEWAY FAMILY CHURCH, 4310 Black Gold Drive, Leduc, AB.
