We Remember
McMANUS, James K.
October 1, 1934 — August 1, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, James (Jim) Kenneth McManus, in Kelowna, age 81. He leaves behind his three children Tamra (Shaun), Robert (Kezia), and Tracy (Steven), as well as seven grandchildren: Sarah, Connor, Patrick, Cameron, Riley, Kristen, and Kyle. Also missing him are his extended family and many friends, particularly Dee. He was predeceased by our mom, Shirley, in 2011. Jim grew up on a farm near Kindersley, Saskatchewan. After graduation, he studied aeronautical engineering at SAIT in Calgary. His career took him to Montreal to work for Canadair and this is where he met and married Shirley French. Eventually, they moved to Vancouver where Dad worked for Canadian Airlines. A career highlight at Canadair came when he and a colleague designed the tail stabilizer on the Snowbirds Demonstration Squadron CT-114 Tutor. In 1993, Jim retired after 30 years with Canadian. He and Mom then moved to Vernon where Dad enjoyed building RC airplanes or tinkering in his workshop. Our dad was a gentleman, a family man. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and Prairie roots. He was strong, handsome, kind, and funny. We will miss his smile, his soft voice, and his gentle heart. We love you so much, Dad. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 27th from 2- 4 pm at daughter Tamra’s home in North Vancouver. Please call or text 604-803-2619 for directions or details. Love you Uncle Jim ❤️❤️❤️
On behalf of all of us at Polson , we are so sorry for your loss. We have enjoyed knowing Jim for the past 6 or so years. I will miss his smile, his humour and his “dishpan hands”. Take care to your family.
To: Tamra – Robert -Tracy & family;
From his wonderful neighborhood (THE FOOTHILLS OF VERNON) WE send you our special thoughts and prayers for a man that was an anchor in this area!
Always there with a kind word, a smile and over 23 years he was the Pioneer of this area!
We both shared the same amount of years and was blessed in knowing both Shirley and Jim!
Time flies and I am saddened not to have gone on that visit that I promised at Carrington…but I can still see his smile as you were closing his special abode that he loved dearly…..
PEACE AT LAST JOINING YOUR ANGEL SHIRLEY!
Sincerely. Jeannine Zein – George Wilson. Evelin Kryvor – Bernice VanderRoest
Tamra, Robert, Tracy and family,
Please accept my condolences on the passing of your father. Jim and Shirley were wonderful friends. I worked with Jim at CP Air for 15 years, during which time he became both a good friend and a mentor. His knowledge of aircraft performance and the professionalism he displayed during in his career were very much on display. May you be comforted in the knowledge that he and Shirley are finally reunited.
My condolences to all Jim’s family. You will never have heard my name , but Jim and I were in High School, and graduated together in Kindersley, in 1952. I look at our Grad picture and remember him as a great guy even then. I’m happy to have known him.
I just learned of Jim’s passing earlier today (September 7, 2016) and was deeply saddened by the news. I remember him so well from our days at Canadian Pacific Airlines in Vancouver. He was a gentleman, a person with a warm heart and gentle smile at all times and always had a kind word. He was a friend, a colleague, a teacher but most of all a wonderful human being who was proud of his work and his colleagues. I was so blessed to know him.
To his family and friends, my sincerest condolences and please know that Jim did make a difference in many lives.
