We Remember
MCNAMARA, Thomas “Tom”
—
1937 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” McNamara, who left us peacefully in 2025 at the age of 88.
Tom was born on September 9, 1937, to Ernest and Winnie McNamara. His early years were shaped by military values of hard work, grit, and humor that never left him. After attending Western High School in Calgary, Tom pursued his studies at BYU University in Utah. Following his return to Calgary, he and his father-in-law formed Centaur Motors, a business that reflected his entrepreneurial spirit.
A gifted storyteller and natural entertainer, Tom also expressed himself through music. He was a member of “The TIKIS,” a 1960s folk act that frequented the Prairie Dog Inn in Calgary, where his quick wit and charm made him a crowd favorite.
In 1978, Tom moved his family to the Okanagan Valley, where he would put down deep roots. In Kelowna, Tom and Eve shared 56 years together, raising their family, building a life full of faith, and playing a round of golf or two.
Tom was a member of the Mormon faith in Kelowna and faithfully served in many callings. His life revolved around family and church gatherings, where he was often found telling stories, singing with his steady bass voice, and leading the way with humor and warmth.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Patricia Corner. He is predeceased by his wife Eve, with whom he is now reunited.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 799 Predator Ridge Drive, Vernon, BC, on September 27, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Tom lived a long, full life of love, laughter, faith, and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I was deeply saddened to come across the obituary for Tom. Please accept my most sincere condolences to your entire family..
Tom and Eve hold a very special place in my heart. In the summer of 1976, while I was serving my LDS mission in Calgary, I had the sacred privilege of baptizing them. They were, without exaggeration, the most outstanding people I met during my entire mission. Their faith and goodness left a lasting impression on me, and I have thought of them often over the decades.
While I am devastated that I missed the chance to see them again in this life, I find immense comfort in the knowledge of the gospel. I am happy in the knowledge that they are now reunited, free to enjoy the eternal blessings they embraced so faithfully. My hope is to live so that I may be worthy of a joyful reunion with them in the next life.
To TJ and Kelli Ann, if you see this message, it would mean a great deal to me if you could reach out. I would love to connect and perhaps share some memories of your wonderful parents. I can be reached at jaylower100@gmail.com. I am currently living in Denver, CO.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
