We Remember
MEYER, Otto Karl Alfred
—
1929 – 2024
With great sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved father, Otto Karl Alfred Meyer, who passed away on January 4, 2024. He left this world peacefully, surrounded by his family.
In 1929, Otto was born in Trebitsch, Germany, where his family ran a large business. After the war ended, his dream was to come to Canada with his wife Connie. In 1957, they emigrated and arrived in Vancouver, BC. Together they raised their two children and were thrilled when their three grandsons arrived.
Otto was a passionate Rally Driver through the 60s and worked in the automotive industry for many years. In 1988, Otto and Connie retired and moved to Kelowna, BC. In retirement, he pursued his many interests, including stained-glass, wine making, and growing the most beautiful roses. Sadly, after 53 years of marriage, Connie passed away in 2009.
A year or so later, Otto met Maria Franken at a dance. They have been together ever since, and have enjoyed their happy and quiet life.
A quiet and proud man, Otto faced a number of health issues with stoicism and courage. His humour was dry and witty, which he was able to keep right until the end. He was kind and intelligent and was loved by family and friends, near and far.
Otto is survived by his family: his children Norman (Debbie) and Marion; his three grandsons, Alexander, Colby, Daniel; and his spouse, Maria.
Respecting Otto’s wishes, there will be no service. Friends and family will each honour him in their own way.

It is with a deep sadness that I say goodbye to my friend, Otto Meyer, who I had gotten to know over the last four years.
Otto found me here at my barbershop, because of my Volkswagen affiliation, and for the last four years, I had the honour of cutting his hair and benefitting from his wonderful stories of his life his grandfather and the business he ran in Germany.
He would often just show up at the barbershop, or try to get a hold of me for a haircut, and when we came together he always reminded me of my beloved grandfather /Opa.
I’m so thankful for the years I had with him and his lovely partner Maria.
My deepest condolences to, Maria, his family and his children. Marion Meyer
Gonna miss you, Otto. 🍻

Our deepest condolences to Norman, Marion and Maria.
I met Otto and Connie when I arrived in Vancouver in 1959 from Germany. Otto was one of the best friends I had. In 1961 he was the Best Man at our wedding. We travelled together. For several years I was Otto’s navigator when he was driving his VW in Car Rallyes, he was a top driver.
