MITSCHKE, Rita Alice (née Birston)
September 2, 1935 — June 29, 2021
The family of Rita Mitschke is saddened to share the news of her peaceful passing on June 29, 2021 at Kelowna General Hospital, with loved ones by her side. Born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, Rita lived in Russell, MB until she moved to Calgary, AB to marry the love of her life, Glen, on November 19, 1954. Their family relocated to Kelowna, BC in 1968.
Rita worked in various dry cleaning locations in Calgary and Kelowna over the years, and she and Glen enjoyed many winters in Yuma, AZ. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, and doing many crafts. Her children and grandchildren were the recipients of many novelty items she created, there were also many pairs of mittens given to children’s charities through the Lutheran church.
Rita and Glen lived with their youngest daughter Debbie and her family for the past 25 years on an acreage in Winfield, BC.
Rita was predeceased by many siblings, brothers- & sisters-in-law, and her son-in-law Rod Lang. She is survived by her loving husband, Glen; children Jo-Ann Moe, Ken Mitschke (Cindy Roth), and Debbie Lang (Bill Varner); grandchildren Tania Jackett (Chad), CJ Moe (Amanda), Jason Mitschke (Michelle), Ryan Roth (Tanya), Sheldon Lang, and Shantelle Hartmann (Jordin); great-grandchildren Asher Jackett, Jorja Mitschke, & Hugh Jackson, Coby & Adalynn Moe, Ava & Slade Roth, and Fritz & Heinz Hartmann.
The family will hold a service and burial at a later date when we can all gather together.
