We Remember

MONTGOMERY, Ivan Meredith
—
We are sad to announce the passing of our father, Ivan (Monty) Montgomery on February 9, 2024 at the age of 93.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy of 68 years and their three children, Tara (Craig), Mark (Noreen) and Margot (Bill); grandchildren, Megan (Ryan), Lesley (Ian), Derek (Olivia), Karen (Mike), Sean, Paige (Jeff); and 8 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his younger brother, Grant and survived by his older sister Lois.
Monty was born in 1930 on a farm near Gorrie, Ontario. He met his wife, Sandra Marie Stewart, in London, Ontario where they were married and their children were born. Working with Wawanesa Insurance, he moved from Ontario, to the Maritimes, to Alberta and finally to the head office in Winipeg, Manitoba where he became CEO and President until he retired.
He retired to BC to enjoy golfing at Gallaghers Canyon and skiing at Big White. He was an avid reader and volunteered for Community Policing and the Kelowna General Hospital for many years.
Monty was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a great sense of humour and was always there to give advice and a helping hand to his family.
Our family would like to thank all of the staff at Missionwood for their kindness over the last 2 years. We would also like to thank Kevin from the Village at Mill Creek for his compassion and support.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.
Margot & family. My thoughts are with you during this time of grief. I never knew your father but I felt like I knew him when you talked about him in our many conversations. Our condolences Sharon & Dewey
Please accept heartfelt condolences from some of the Wawanesa staff that are still around and have fond memories your Dad. Husband. We enjoyed working for him all those years ago. Sincere sympathy to all the family. Linda Sweezey, Sandra Dooe and Bea Price.
Dear Montgomery family
Our deepest condolences on the passing of Monty.
It was our pleasure and honour to work with and for Monty. This is how he made you feel – respected, valued and important. He did not make himself seem more important given his position with Wawanesa. Very humble which we believe was from his upbringing and his advancement within Wawanesa.
Monty did not demand respect, he earned it in the manner he dealt with people. He established, maintained and encouraged a family environment at Wawanesa again based on respect, trust, honesty and freedom to speak.
May you cherish all your memories of Monty when you miss him most.
Donna and Joe
