We Remember

MONTY, Charlotte Mary (née Barber)
—
It is with a heavy heart we announce that Charlotte Mary Monty passed away peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2021, at the Hospice House in Kelowna. She fought the cancer hard and strong, it eventually took her from us.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Charlotte grew up in Richmond Hill, ON. The daughter of Jim (deceased), and Jean Barber, she was the oldest of 5, the big sister to Art (Virginia), Marie, Ian (Penny) and Annette (Brian). At the young age of 21, she moved west and eventually settled in Kelowna, BC where she met her husband, Gerry. Charlotte was a devoted wife to Gerry; she will be reunited with their son Alex who is deceased. She will be missed by her husband, mother, siblings, and nieces and nephews.
Charlotte put everyone first and was a wonderful friend. She was a happy, giving, caring, and beautiful woman inside and out. Every summer Charlotte spent a weekend with her lifelong friends. They enjoyed each other’s company and the outdoors. She looked forward to this every year.
Charlotte, Gerry, and Alex shared a love of the outdoors, they participated in all sports: downhill skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, and hiking. Charlotte’s other interests included sewing, scrap booking, and making the most beautiful and memorable cards. Charlotte also designed, loved and cared for her garden which she shared with the birds and deer!
We will always remember Charlotte as a wonderful, giving woman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Sincerest condolences to Gerry, Aunt Jean and all the Barber family.
To Gerry and Charlotte’s friends & family. My thoughts are with you during this time of transition. Condolences to Gerry, Aunt Jean and Charlotte’s siblings and their families. Cousin Linda Neal Carder
Our heartfelt condolences to you, Gerry, and to family and friends of Charlotte. In the brief time we we were lucky enough to know her, we discovered her genuine kindness and generosity towards others. I hope that as time passes it will become easier to feel the happiness of her memory rather than the sadness of her passing. The beauty of a life well lived never dies. It continues to embrace and inspire us. We hope you take strength and comfort in all the wonderful memories you will carry in your heart forever. Words are so inadequate at a time like this, but please know that you are in our thoughts.

I just found out about this sad news a few days ago. I was going through old correspondence and found a letter from Charlotte. She was a friend I met while attending Seneca College in the Fashion Arts Program in the 70’s. Charlotte was a lovely women, talented and smart with a lovely sweet nature. I have been thinking of her often over the years and find this news so sad. The last time I saw Charlotte was here in Orillia ON, when she and her family, Gerry and Alex visited us in August 1990. Alex was just a toddler and I was expecting my son. I am sad I did not search her out before this and send blessings of peace to Gerry, Charlotte’s family and many friends as they carry on without this beautiful soul in their daily lives. With love in remembrance. Laurie and Doug Herd
