We Remember
MOONEY, Halina “Helen” Irene
August 23, 1946 — July 31, 2026
It is with great love and sadness that we announce the loss of Helen Mooney, who passed away while surrounded by her family on July 31, 2026, at the age of 79.
Left to hold her dear to their hearts are those she loved most, including her husband Bob of 54 years; brother Dennis (Kathy) Sadowski and nephew Alex (Amanda) Sadowski and their children, Deacon and Margot; niece Nicola (Matt) Priestley, and their daughter Elianna.
She now goes to join her parents Kaz and Stella Sadowski, who passed before her.
Helen was born on August 23, 1946, in Frille, Germany. She grew up with her brother in a close-knit, multigenerational family where grandparents were an important part of everyday life. Those early years shaped the values she carried throughout her life. Proud of her Polish heritage, Helen preserved treasured family traditions through her cooking, hospitality, and the strong family bonds she nurtured.
After immigrating to Canada, Helen first settled in Port Arthur, now Thunder Bay, Ontario before eventually making British Columbia her home. She built a career with the Department of Agriculture and was known for her strong work ethic and caring nature. Above all, she was devoted to her family, selflessly caring for her parents and grandmother when they needed her most. Her compassion, strength, and willingness to put others first were among her greatest gifts.
Helen was feisty, vibrant, and full of life. She shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Bob, and was his rock through life’s many adventures. They were both passionate car enthusiasts and, in their younger years, enjoyed rod runs together, creating lasting memories along the way. They also loved to travel, especially to Mexico, where they looked forward to spending time in the sunshine together.
Helen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening and could often be found tending to her flowers and plants. Summer was her favourite season, and she always enjoyed having a pool where family and friends could gather. Many cherished summers were spent in Peachland, surrounded by loved ones, laughter, and lasting friendships. She also adored their beloved cat, BC whose companionship brought her comfort and happiness.
Helen’s warmth, resilience, generous spirit, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Her love for family, her devotion to those she cared for, and the traditions she passed on will continue to be remembered and cherished.
She will be greatly missed and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
Family and friends will each honour her in their own ways. No formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of these charities in honour of Helen: BC Cancer, Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Alzheimer Society of Canada.
