We Remember

MOORE, Cyril Endrick

On Tuesday, January 26, 2021, Cyril Moore, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend went to be with the Lord, at the age of 85 after a short decline in health.

Cyril’s legacy will be carried on by his three sons Lennard (Latoya) George, Bruce, and Kevin (Melanie); and his six grandchildren Ayinde, Akinlabi, Johance, Terence, Isaak, and Eva. His memory will also be cherished by his sisters Wilda Margaret, Beryl, and Stephna; his brothers Gilbert, Walter, Charles, and Anthony; all of his extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and of course his many dear friends. Cyril goes to join his beloved wife Emiko (d. 2018). He is also predeceased by his parents Ansel Goodridge and Evelyn Matilda Moore; his sisters Viona and Wendy, and his brothers Arthur and Peter.

Cyril moved to Trinidad to live with his aunt Eva Jack Joseph who played an important part in his development. He was an assistant (local) preacher of the North Trinidad Methodist circuit in Trinidad and Tobago.

He got his tailoring certification from city guilds, and the London Institute, and he acquired skills by attending Tranquility night school in Port of Spain Trinidad. He was one of the few master tailors in Trinidad and Tobago. He also taught tailoring at the goodwill industries technical institute in Trinidad and Tobago and worked as a tailor at the police headquarters in Port of Spain Trinidad. Due to his master tailoring, he came to Canada. He also designed and even made suits for the mayor of Vancouver  BC. Cyril was also employed by The Hudson Bay company store in Kelowna BC. He designed and made his coat that he wore to come to Canada. He made his wife’s wedding gown. He was the family tailor.

An author of four published books of poetry, including “Canada eh!”, he also entered into a competition of writing the national anthem of Trinidad and Tobago. His sons remember hearing the typewriter late into the night.

Cyril loved cricket, he played from early childhood up into his early 70s. The Kelowna Cricket Club is where he met some of his closest friends, Tip and Amy Harvey and family; the Harvey family was his family away from home. The Cricket club later joined with the rugby club where he built lasting friendships with the members.

Cyril was a performer, he loved to sing, write songs, and play the bongos. He played an important role in the Boy’s Brigade at San Juan Methodist Church singing tenor.  He “tread the boards” with Kelowna Community Theatre and acted in productions of Fiddler on Roof and Those Damn Yankees. He was an extra in several productions. And, Cyril sang tenor in a Barber Shop Quartet.

Involved with St Paul’s United church where his good friend Rev. Albert Baldeo ministered, Cyril was on the church committee and had lots of great friendships built through there.

Incredibly active in the community, Cyril was very involved with Folk Fest and the Caribbean Festival. He also volunteered with Kiwanis, Fat Cat Festival, Taste of Home put on by the Multicultural Society, and many more worthy organizations and projects. He helped make our community rich with diverse experiences.

Cyril lived life to the fullest, he will be dearly missed.

A Private Graveside Service will be held, for all those who are unable to attend the family invites you to join by Livestream Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm (SEE BELOW). A recording will be made available shortly thereafter to view anytime.

To the Moore Sons and families.
We were so saddened to hear of your dad’s passing. We became friends through the St. Paul’s United Church family some twelve years ago. During that time, we shared good food, fun stories, and great fellowship. In our conversations, we learned early on that he was dedicated to family, church, and community. It was indeed a pleasure knowing him, and sharing his thoughts through his books, stories, and poetry. Let the cherished memories of a life well lived, and of a man well loved be a source of comfort in your time of grief. Please accept our deepest sympathy in your time of sorrow and loss.
    God bless.
    Tom and Shirley

  • Gretchen Aird Dawson says:

My deepest sincere condolences to the Cyril Moore Family. I was deeply saddened to hear the news when Beryl Baldeo called me. I’m a Trini too, and arrived here in Kelowna to find my new Trini friends, mostly through Albert & Beryl. We made several attempts to have a “Winter dun Gone” Party in February just on or before Carnival weekend. It was amazing to find many “Islanders” living in and around the Okanagan Valley, who attended the several gatherings we managed to have, with wonderful Trini food and music. Your Mum and Dad were always there – sometimes with a couple of you boys. It was a total pleasure getting to know a little about him, enjoy his smile, hear his interesting stories, see the joy in his face as he played his drum. I’ve just watched the very emotional graveside service – May your Dad rest in Peace as he meets up with Mum to pick up their love together as they enjoyed their love here Kelowna. May the love of God and your love for each other give you strength to carry on with your young families, as you grieve now the loss of both parents. Beryl Baldeo gave you and your families a very special, meaningful grave service on this sunny morning February 3rd/21. God’s Blessings upon you all.
