We Remember
MORDEN, Douglas Ernest
—
Doug Morden died peacefully with family at his side on Wed. Feb24, 2016. Doug was born in 1933 to Marie and Anzie Morden in High Prairie, AB. Predeceased by brother Ralph, sisters Hazel Wood, Jenny Scrivens, Ruth Savill, Katie Macdonald, Ruby Pratt, he leaves to mourn his daughter Kim, wife Sandra, sister Gladys (Bill) Wiebe, many nieces and nephews. Doug, Sandra and Kim made their first home in Calgary. In 1968, they moved to Iran where Doug spent seven years in the oil industry. When it became too dangerous to remain, they moved to Scotland where Doug drilled in the North Sea for three years. Returning to Kelowna, they lived in Crawford Estates and spent many hours enjoying their horses, and going on trail rides. Doug had a beautiful voice and his favorite time was spent around a bon fire playing his guitar and entertaining his friends with songs of John Denver and Merle Haggard. There will be no funeral at Doug’s request. A celebration of life will be held in Alberta at a later date.

Sorry to hear about Doug. I always considered him a gentleman. Condolences to you and your daughter Janet Slyter
Sandra and Kim, I am so sorry for your loss. I have many, many, many fond memories of you Sandra, the most wonderful hostess ever and Doug the bartender (what fun we all had) at your house with KD and the crowd.

It’s difficult to express in words what Doug meant to me. For a short time he was indeed a father, in Scotland, during my difficult years. For most of my life from early childhood, and on into adulthood he, and my Godmother Sandra were pillars of wisdom. Loved and respected, always a soft place to land when life took the inevitable hard falls. With them I never needed an invitation, I could just land and know that their love would help guide me. My only sister, by another mother Kim, so much like both Doug and Sandra was and is still a permanent soul who carries with her so many of her fathers best traits. I love and miss you Doug, but faith assures me you will be the guardian angel to watch over Kim and Sandra as they continue life’s journey. I will never, ever forget you, your humour, music, and your big heart. This is not the end, merely a transition, and I know we will meet again some sunny day.
So sorry to hear about Doug Sandra. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Kim during this time.

My love to Sandra and Kim as they navigate one of life’s most difficult passages. Doug will never be forgotten.
I was saddened to hear of Morley’s and my dear friend’s passing. Doug was our best man at our wedding and was a *best* man as a friend for over 65-70 years. We loved him like family and I can’t help but think he’s entertaining Morley and others who predeceased him in this life. My heart goes out to you Sandra, to your daughter, Gladys and to all of the extended family we know and knew in High Prairie.. Our friendship extends back to Doug’ s dear mother and father who were OUR friends, but also of the Dufresnes who were Morley’s grandparents. He will be missed by all of us who knew and loved him…
Am sorry my photos are in WA and I’m in AZ. Take good care and call me if I can be of any help to you. My love and sympathy, Maxine.
I’ll always remember singing and playing scrabble with Doug and Sandra. RIP Doug.
Where would I start………….with all the wonderful memories I of have of time spent at Crawford Estates……..Bob Siciliano once said that their sign at the end of their driveway should read, “The Mordens and Kathy…………..I can still hear Doug’s wonderful laugh…………………..and after not to much badgering Doug would sing “I Miss my Swiss..”………..because I loved to hear him yodel.
I’m lucky to have to have know………………

Doug and I have been friends since we were in High School in High Prairie, Alberta. We shared much time together in sports: particularly hockey and baseball. We also spent time pursuing the opposite sex during our last school years. Sometimes even dating the same girl. We attended many dances in those days. It was the best place to meet and have a great time. When Doug headed overseas to Iran, and then Scotland, to pursue his oil drilling career we lost touch for several years. When he and Sandra returned to Canada they choose Kelowna as home. That’s when Doug and I resumed our early friendship. Doug loved company and a camp fire. He got out his guitar and entertained those that were visiting. He and Sandra played hosts to the many family and friends that visited over the years. “Uncle Doug” was a favourite of his many nieces and nephews. Safe journey Doug, until we meet again.
So very sorry for your loss Sandra and Kim. Lots of fond and fun memories of Doug.
Hi Sandra. I was sad to read of Doug’s passing. He was a true gentleman. He was 5 years older than me but I remember a Northern Alberta Regional track meet in High Prairie when he set a Regional triple jump record. When I mentioned that to him a few years ago, he laughed and said he didn’t even remember the occasion. He was a pretty decent baseball catcher too. Modesty was his strong suit. All the best to you and Kim.
Hi Sandra, I was so sorry to hear about Doug’s passing. He was such a good friend of Clarence and I – we had such good times together back in the day! He was a kind man and cared so much about his friends. He kept in touch with me all through the years and I always enjoyed getting caught up on all the news of friends near and far. He will be remembered with such fondness and dearly missed.
Sincere condolences to you and Kim,
Sheila
Please let me know if you have a memorial celebration in Alberta. Thank you.
