We Remember

MORI, Yemiko

June 28, 1941 — July 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma Yemiko Mori on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the age of 83.

Yemiko was born in Summerland, British Columbia on June 28, 1941 to her parents Tsuneo and Yoshiko. Mom’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mom loved to host sleepovers, beach or water park excursions, bowling, skiing, making their favourite dinners, endless variety of baking, getting slurpees or just watching movies with them. She never missed a birthday or graduation or the opportunity to let them know how much she loved them.

She will forever be loved and missed by her husband, Satoshi; her four children Carelyn (Wayne), Wade (Kelly), Janice, and Brenda (Jason); her grandchildren, Jordan, Robynne (Max), Christopher (Emily), Isabella, Mackenzie, Sophia, Nathan, Hannah, and Alexandria; and her great-grandchildren Victoria and Parker; her sister Miyeko (Howard); and many of her and Sat’s nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Yemiko was predeceased by her first husband Yoshikazu Tabata, her parents Tsuneo and Yoshiko, siblings Yuki, Hideko, Kazuo, Isamu and her sister Tomiko.

Yemiko’s family would like to thank the amazing staff at Kelowna Hospice House for the loving care they provided during her short stay.  And a special thank you to her friend Debra, who’s warm friendship and caring attitude made moms difficult days brighter.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that you make a donation to the Kelowna Hospice House.

An informal gathering will be held on MONDAY, JULY 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM at KELOWNA MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY (1991 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna).

Condolences

  • Glenn Mori says:

Uncle Sat, Carolyn, Wade, Janice, Brenda, condolences from Glenn, Isabella and Tova. When I think of Auntie Yem I can still hear the sound of her chuckle when she found something amusing, the same laugh she had from the time we met her to the last time I saw her. In spite of how infrequently we got up to Kelowna we often seem to run into her at Orchard Park which was always a happy surprise. Our thoughts are with all of you.

  • Julie Fiorentino says:

Dear Carelyn and Brenda and families,
I was shocked and saddened to read about the passing of Yemiko. Although there are no words to truly take away your pain, be comforted in knowing that your mother had the chance to see you become so much more than the little girl she raised. She saw you become a loyal wife, a loving mother and a very hard-working, dedicated employee. She would have been proud because you have lots to show – underneath your humble and kind nature.
My favourite memory of Yemiko were the days when I would open the doors of Watson Road Elementary at dismissal and she was always there – punctual and waiting for your kids, with a big grin on her face. She was always laughing, always wanting to touch base about how the day went and genuinely interested in what her grandkids had to say. I still see her smile and hear her voice calling your kids when she needed them to head to the car.

Yemiko had a soul filled with sweetness. May the lessons she taught you resonate in your memory, and you hear her laughter on the days you need it most.
    Sincerely,
    Julie Fiorentino
