We Remember

MOXHAM, Norman “George”

November 11, 1930 — October 20, 2026

Norman “George” Moxham passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 20, 2026, just shy of his 96th birthday.

Born on November 11, 1930, in East Arrow Park, BC, to Agnes and Norman Victor Moxham. Dad grew up alongside his four sisters on the family ranch. In 1942, the family moved to Trail, where his father found employment “up the hill” with CM&S, now known as Teck Cominco. Dad soon found work at the local cobbler’s shop, and then, one day, he met our beautiful mom at the Strand Theatre. They married in 1951 and made their home in East Trail. He became the loving father of four children, and we shared many wonderful family times, whether exploring the bush in the Land Rover, skiing at Red Mountain, or watching Dad twirl Mom around the square dancing floor.

Dad was always proud of his career, which began in Grade 11 when he started his electrical apprenticeship with Cominco. He soon moved into Industrial Relations, where his work took him beyond the Trail operations to various parts of British Columbia, the United States, and the Yukon. As his career grew, our family uprooted and moved to the fledgling village of Elkford, where Dad wore many hats. Along with his responsibilities in Human Resources, he was involved in developing the townsite and even had a hand in choosing the village’s name, Elkford.

Eventually, the family returned to Trail, and after 42 years with Cominco, Dad retired. He and Mom built a new home in Ootischenia, where Dad was in his glory keeping chickens and bees and helping Mom with her wonderful garden. They hosted unforgettable parties, enjoyed warm winters golfing in Arizona, and shared the experience of travelling the world. Mom and Dad’s move to Kelowna in 1998 brought a wonderful opportunity to be closer to more family and make new friends.

Dad’s greatest love was his family. Throughout the years, our family shared countless outdoor adventures, beginning with trips in the big canvas tent and eventually graduating to comfortable RVs, always with a fishing rod close at hand. Dad was a constant and dependable source of support for his family, offering not only his wisdom but also his time, skills, and helping hands. He was still mowing lawns and sawing wood well into his 90s.

He also had a passion for hunting, one that began with his own father. Many family members shared countless memorable adventures with Dad, hunting for grouse, deer, and especially moose. Remarkably, Dad continued to hunt and fish until just recently. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were fortunate enough to share in these experiences, spending time with him camping, fishing, and hunting. And although he always carried a compass, he seemed to have a built-in GPS of his own!

Dad was wise. Long before Google and AI, we could simply ask Dad. When his eyesight began to fade and he could no longer read The Globe and Mail, he quickly figured out how to keep up with the news on his computer. He followed world events daily and maintained a keen interest in what was happening around him. He remained endlessly curious and lived each day with purpose, often asking, “What’s on your agenda for today?”

His nearly 96 years were filled with family, friendship, curiosity, physical activity, and social connections. His long and active life reflected the importance he placed on staying connected, continuing to learn, enjoying each day, and giving back to the communities he called home through his many volunteer contributions.

Dad’s stories were the best, and we never tired of hearing them. He made a positive difference in the lives of many, and his influence will continue through his family. His dedication to family, love of the outdoors, strong work ethic, sense of humour, and enthusiasm for life leave a lasting legacy.

He truly was a great inspiration to us.

Dad was predeceased by his cherished wife of 70 years, Bea, and his siblings Lillian Lins and Isabel Hamilton. He is survived by his sisters Doris Mailey and Agnes Mailey (Kevin); his in-laws Tony Zahn (Marlene) and Violet Jackson; his children Karen Bissenden, Chris Moxham (Joyce), Kathleen Kandborg (Drew), and Clarice Bower (Brian); his grandchildren Risa Bissenden, Aidan Bissenden, Adam Moxham (Tania), Gillian Moxham (Justin), Rachel Moxham (Greg), Andy Kandborg (Hannah), Emily Jones (Brad), Julia Bower (Dennis), and Christine Bower; and his great-grandchildren Desmond, Harrison, Hugo, Stella, Nova, and Charlie. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and new and lifelong friends from Trail and Kelowna.
