We Remember
MUIR, Stuart William
May 6, 1940 — February 23, 2018
Stuart William Muir passed away on February 23, 2018 at the age of 77. He is survived by his loving wife, Roberta “Bert”; son Melvin (Martina) Muir of Grand Forks, BC; daughter Barbara (Terry) Hein of Grand Forks, BC; grandchildren Jordan and Nathan Hein; sisters: Donna of Edmonton, AB, Shirley (Guy) of Red Deer, AB, Doreen of Vancouver, BC, Lois (Ron) of Leduc, AB and brother Doug of Calgary, AB. He was predeceased by his parents Ken and Georgie; sister Judy; brothers-in-law Dave, Gary and other cousins, nephews and close friends.
Stuart passed away peacefully following a courageous 8-year battle with cancer with family at this side. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Roberta of 54 years, family, friends, his dog Mocha Bean and all that knew him.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, the oldest of 5 sisters and 1 brother, he attended school in Clearwater, Alberta and continued to further his education to become a Municipal Police Officer for the town of Leduc, Alberta. He attended NAIT to become an Electrician, then a Firefighter at the Edmonton International Airport. He moved the family to Whitehorse to accept a position at the Airport Fire Hall. In 1981 he moved to Kelowna where he became the Airport Fire Chief and then the Superintendent of Airport Operations, after which he accepted a position at Okanagan University College looking after the maintenance/physical plant until he retired.
On most days Stu could be found spending time at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club where he had been a long-time member.
His passions were spending time with his 2 grandchildren, gardening, travelling, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, coffee time at the “office,” happy hour and being with family and his large circle of friends. He was a true “Jack of all trades” and “Master of them all.”
The family would like to thank Dr. Larry Bobyn, the amazing team at the Ethel Hospice House, ambulance attendants and Springfield Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Kelowna Golf & Country Club, 1297 Glenmore Road, Kelowna, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House, www.interiorhealth.ca or the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca.

The Muir Family;
Our families have been together for so long from out start in Whitehorse to coming to Kelowna. Our dads were the real men of the Yukon. They hunted, fished, fixed things, offered great advice, firemen, were great family men. I have so many fond memories especially of the fishing derby weekends at Fox Lake. I am sure your dad is a hero like mine. I will remember your dad’s laugh and story telling. Peace for your family and take care of one another. Sherri Armstrong Carriere
