We Remember
MURRAY, Charles Edward
October 4, 1929 — November 3, 2013
Ed passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital after suffering a stroke and complications.
He was born in Winnipeg and worked as an Accountant during his career. He and his first wife Marion went to California on their honeymoon and decided that was the place for them. Their 3 children were born in California. They divorced when the children were adults and he married Ruthi Burnard. They had 31 years together before she passed away in 2006. They had decided to move to the Kelowna area for the clean air and purchased a home in Sonoma Pines. Their salesperson was Diane Newton and they lived across the street from Diane and Wayne Newton. Wayne passed away in 2007 and Ed and Diane decided they were a good team. They were married in 2008 on a very hot day in Naramata.
Ed and Diane enjoyed their motorhome, timeshares, family, friends and pets Buster and Meilee.
The West Kelowna Yacht Club was a favorite spot for them and everyone remembers that Ed was definitely the best dancer at the club, the envy of much younger members.
Ed had a group of friends who met every Friday for pool and lunch. He looked forward to Friday and wasn’t happy if he missed that special day. Thank you to the “Friday guys” for all your support during Ed’s illness.
Besides Diane, Ed is survived by his sons David (Lorraine) of Vermont, Russell of California and daughter Yvonne (Kent) of Colorado, and step-daughter Paulette Burnard who lives in Portugal. Also step-sons Stewart (Melanie) and John Worth of Calgary.
Grandchildren Casey, Kayla and Stephanie remember their Papa as loving and lots of fun. Step-grandchildren Ella, Maisie, Jayne and Kate Worth all enjoyed a wonderful summer holiday in the Okanagan. Ed has not seen his other step-granddaughter Robyn Ayotte for some years but she spent lots of time with him as she grew up.
Besides boating Ed enjoyed golf, and he was a jack of all trades. The family called him Mr. Fix It and neighbors said he was like the Energizer Bunny.
His happy smile and kind and loving ways will be missed by so many. Thank you to the staff on 2 East at the hospital. Their professional and caring ways were a blessing at a sad time.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 6th at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
